Right - if you refer to my last post of "Duff Fuel" the problem has now worsened. I left car overnight and started up this morning fine. Just been around the block for a quick blat and as pulled back into my street noticed BATTERY light was on. Not only that the LIGHTS light the ANTI-LOCK light , DIFF OIL and MISS OIL Lights were all on. Then I noticed the temperature - in the MAX. switched off the engine and could here gurlgling noises from under the bonnet. About a litre of water came out from near the passenger front wheel. I let car cool down and just started up again to see. Car starts up fine but all them lights are still on. temp is now in norm. There is a gurgling noise from the brake reservoir area at the back of the engine. The large white (viscous) fan is not moving though. About 30 secs later the car starts stuttering and slowly dies again.

Now I presume the white fan has failed causing it to overheat?

What do I do now?

Cheers

Bugger - now the battery is dead

What else can go wrong with this car

this is a BAAAADDDDD morning

You didnt do something stupid like put diesel in your car? Becuase that what you described is what happens with some cars besides the water.

The white fan moves all the time so if that isnt moving the fan belt is probably broken.

Definately unleaded

triple checked the receipt

the white fan - I cant see the belt that drives this?

any ideas on why the battery is now totally dead?

or is this all coincidence?

yup, sounds like youve lost your belt

thats why your battery lights on & the battery is dead - the alternator is not charging.

look here: belts the alternator & water pump (& fan) run off the same belt

The water may not be the head gasket but the water pump leaking.

If the pump isnt working because the belt snapped it will over heat. If the fan belt snapped it will over heat.

When was the last belt change done?

Stuart

the water pump may not be leaking stu, but without the pump & fan the engine will quickly overheat & dump the coolant out of the overflow.

Belt had come off - inspected all seemed ok

Fitted back (after half an hour fumbling under the car) and started car. Big noise and belt popped straight back off

Looked at the fan and noticed water pump pulley shaft for the fan is just rattling around. I think I need a new water pump.

Are these expensive? easy to fit?

Ta

bout 62 pounds for a parts dircet reasonable to fit if you have a bit of experience, lots of online info
