My Parts from the US came today from Courtsey.

I have been charged £74 for import duty

I have never heard anyone mention this before?

Can this b right as the parts ammounted to $375.19 (abount £210)

shipping costs $67.75 (£37.50)

seems a little high to me £254 charged to my credit card and then this bill of £74 its more than a quater to pay again

enyone else had this??

sounds about right to me.

VAT=17.5%

The duty somewhere between 0-10% (usually about 4%)

And probably an admin fee of £10.

You can query it though.

That sounds like wishful thinking to me..... I thought import duty could be as high as 20% - not including Vat?

u sure that £74 didnt include the shipping?? im sure mine did.

Just did some checking online and apparently import duty averages between 5-10%(+vat... yup thats right you have to pay tax on your tax.....) but can range from 0%- 85%

Is this added cost from the imports authority in the uk?

They charge you on the amount the company insure the goods for shipping. You can phone them up and quiery the charge. Have you already paid?

I ordered some prints from USA cost £40. when they delivered them to me the importers wanted to charge me £233!FFS took me 2 months to get my prints with nothing to pay in the end

i have to get it picked up as i am working nights this week and the post men wont b able to knock me up

Yep average cost to add to buys from the US is roughly 20 1/4 - 22% and if delivered by Fedex they often pay the duties for you and bill you a week later, if yer don't pay, court !!

smithy

You also get charged VAT on the shipping cost, not just the cost of the goods !

but can range from 0%- 85%

Depends on type of good, ciggies eg are probably more than 85%

Car parts are generally 4%.

picked up parts yesterday

£50.50 V.A.T.

£13.74 Parcel Force

£10 Admin

my problem was ive been waiting for 3weeks as they didnt have all the parts in stock.

The day after I ordered some splash guards (mud flaps) and got told i couldnt put it on top of my previous order.

Thats where the extra unexpected cost was from, only found out when i opened the package with em in

still saved a small fortune in the end though ;)

will recommend and use again

I had just under $1300 and it cost me £88 in import duties from Parcelforce

Paul,

Did they charge you 2 lots for shipping? If so email them as they're very helpfull :)
