What is involved when fitting wide arches?

I am trying to get an idea of the work involved in fitting wide rear arches (Paul Bailey / Z centre). I have heard that the original rear quarter panels / wings are removed completely and replaced with the wider items, is this true? If not, what needs to happen to fit them?

Thanks.

Paul.
