My mate has a supra with about 450bhp. Scary fast, like ridiculous fast. Has no problem embarrasing tuned 300zx tt.

Yep, that's all good when cars have been modded up, but what about standard ones. I personally think that the supra is probably the quickest, just a bit though.

RX7's very quick off the line, but it couldn't match my 300 once I got into third. :)

Not really a fair comparison though - perhaps if the 300 has been de-catted with freeflow exhaust.

Toyota never followed the "gentleman's agreement" to restrict their cars to 280bhp.

when I owned a very nice 3000GT, briefly (UK spec), I raced my mate who bought my old 300 off me, both pretty much stock, coming back from Grasshopper as I remember. We had a bit of a duel, but there was literally nothing in it up to about 100mph, on our local racetrack!! :D :slap:

My mate has a UK Supra TT 6 speed manual, my jap TT auto is only a tiny bit behind. And if I get on the gas first I am away. Both Standard.

According to Autocar test, the 1/4 mile times were

Supra TT 13.7

GTO 14.5

RX7 14.6

300zx timed at 14.4

What-Car Oct 2003 pitted SupraTT, GTO & 300zx, 0-100 times were

SupraTT 12.3

300ZX 14.4

GTO 16.1 (tall gearing means slooooow 80-100)

All tests were UK cars, all seem close-ish so on the road, sorry officer, track it's really down to the driver's ability (after all, I've stuffed BMW 320 coupes in my stock 1.4 16v corsa sport :p )

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Well I must tell you before my Zx was modded my wife's Supra TT Auto was faster!!!

we have to be honest.

Geoff.

I had a ding dong battle with a GTO - when we finally got the chance to go head to head rolling from about 10mph in first, there was literally nothing in it until the top of (my) third gear at about 90 ish, when I started to gain very slowly. Slowed for a roundabout and he turned off unfortunately - good drive though, we were in and out of gaps for about 20miles.

He had dump valves so maybe mildly modded, but probably not based on stats above.

i blew off an MR2 turbo the other night

Z everytime! But then I am biased. LOL

Take into account that the stock Soup comes with 320 BHP, people will tell you the GTO is a sow and the RX-7? Well the 7 is a cracking car but that engine? Delicate is an understatement, not much in it really. All are fairly level on the playing field of "my bo11ox are bigger than yours!" malarkey. IMHO

MR2 Turbo would cain all of them! LMFAO

You cant compare timed times with the 300ZX with times printed in a mag.

The 14.4 is probably from a 13 year old Z with 80,000+ miles on it.

I have also seen videos of standard Japanese Supras doing the 1/4 mile in 14.1 seconds.

i blew off an MR2 turbo the other night

My girlfriends got one of those...no chance! She keeps trying to take mine to work every morning instead...can't imagine why!

Whoops, thanks to SRRAE re-quoting my post I noticed my deliberate error....

......The What-car mag feature was actually Oct 1993 (not 2003) and related to new cars. It was a feature when the Poopra was first introduced to test it against rivals.

Sorry :slap:

Anyways, Stuart's point re Supra 1/4 mile time is a good point. The J-spec Poopra has 280BHP (smaller tubbys) compared to the UK one at 326bhp. The Supra is one exeption when comparing UK cars to J-imports, The UK one is actually way better. (unless you spend over £20K and get the VVTI model from 1999 onward) ;)

the uk spec gto otherwise known as the 3000gt has bigger turbos as standard than its jap counter part so its not just the toy motor gang.

Plus Rx7 R1 will kill all the others i know ive drove one there light as **** and seriously rapid but are crap in the wet and eat juice like its going out of fashion silly ****el engine to blame for that

Get yerselves to Trax this year and see what fast really is! LMFAO

Seen the Sumo Power Mitsi kill an R1 and a Hayabusa on the 0-60 sprint, think the time was about 3 secs dead! Awesome! LMFAO

Oh and the guy with the mini that looks like a right shed but blew away the competition with a 3.4 secs timing, however Metro man will probably be there again this year...absolute class! Quality entertainment, could watch that all day. :)
