Hi- can anyone please tell me- are there any differences between the above?I'm thinking about getting some S/S downpipes and decat pipes from US but I'm unsure if they will fit my jap TT

The turbos are basically all the same, but the Jspec's have different downpipes so the US/EURO spec pipes won't fit.

Sorry, I didn't see you also mentioned decat/test pipes.

If you get the combo down + testpipes it should fit.

if you just get the downpipes, it won't fit...

Hi Eric, thanks for this. Has anyone fitted these on a J-spec?

Q- is the bolt pattern on the Turbos- where the down pipe bolts on- the same on J-spec cars as US cars?

Not sure about the UK model but the US autos have slightly smaller compressor wheels in the turbos than the 5 speeds and less duration cams. The Jap cars all have the smaller turbos and cams. This limits them to 280HP which was the gentleman's agreement between Jap car manufacturers in the 90s.

Thanks.

280HP?, I have heard many different and confusing things about power outputs including-

A- jap cars are more powerful

B- japs are less powerful

C-Uk Cars have the most power - US least

D autos have 280, manuals have 300

E- Autos have different turbos to manuals

Q-Please can anyone confirm a definitive on STD BHP ratings?

(My car is a series 2 Jap TT manual.)

Q -Are all of the turbo to down pipe bolt patterns identical?.......... (I really want to buy these downpipes and decat pipes..... but Texas is long way to take them back if they don't fit!)

Thanks.

see, theres the problem. i dont think anyone actually knows the output of each variation & urban myths have now taken over!!!

about 280bhp!

Thanks.

Not worth worrying about. Take three stock cars (especially at 10 years old) and one will be at 260, one will be at 280, and one will be at 300. Also depends on the weather (yes really, and significantly so). So 280 plus or minus quite a lot covers all Zs. ;)

Autos have higher tranny losses than manuals and are geared differently, so identical power would translate into different performance anyway.

[And yes I do have a bee in my bonnet about BHP cock-waving! ]

Thanks- .. I cant tell if mine's making more or less...... but it's well fast enough to make me grin when I give it some stick!..... however..... I'd still love to know if the turbo to down pipe bolt pattern is the same on all cars?

please help!

I have seen official Nissan selling literature on the 300ZX and the stats show its BHP as 300BHP.

Then at the bottome of the table it says in brackets Auto output 280bhp

Automatics have T2 turbos and Manuals have T2/T2.5. They are very slightly bigger

Leonard, as a supplier of turbo's here i can safely yes UK/Jap spec are the same, same goes for series 1 + 2, however i doubt anyone can confirm 100% as regards the US version being completly the same, as obviously no one here has a US car. I gues yer interested in buying the turbo down pipes(short ones on turbo) that are of split design as well as the main de-catt pipes, the turbo down pipes mentioned above are an improvement on the stock design, however the benefit on a mainly stock car with stock turbo's is minimal, hybrids and larger benefit the most, personally for now i would wait on those, de-catt pipes for UK exhausts are easily available from the traders here and their cost is not that much different to US ones once you take into account shipping, taxes, vat import duty etc. I can tell yer though the split dump pipes will be available to suit UK cars this year and can then be added to your UK supllied de-catt pipes, hope all this helps

smithy

Oh meant to add one other thing, lol in fitting the turbo dump pipes correctly will involve removing the turbo's, which also means the engine :-( de-catt pipes is no problem to any exhaust centre.

cheers

smithy

bolt pattern of US turbos is exactly the same as EURO/JSPEC/UK.

removing the engine to fit downpipes ?...don't think so.

I think you're confused with the gearbox, which has to be removed to get good access..

-Eric

In removing the stock the TURBO pipes for the FIRST time, given the very limited space and in particular one side is worse than the other, getting the nuts/studs out is a real pain in the ass with very high risk of at least one being seized on either flange, this happens he's kinda knackered really alL for the sake of a very minor mod, however when changing the turbo's as you know makes this dead easy, surely making fitting the de-catt down pipes only now and Turbo pipes later, as his best option.

Hi Smithy & Eric,

Thanks for the advice, i saw the pipes for sale and thought "just the job!"

However, I don't want to get into removing the engine, chances are I'll find other "interesting" things that I'll want to do and hey presto! time passes and I have an "Unfinished project" out of a good roadworthy car.

I really appreciate the help, I'll put it in my longer term plan!

Thanks

Leonard

See it's no wonder we're all confused... because I have a repro of a UK magazine ad and it states 280hp.
