My speedo's a duffa,

I fink Its broke.

disconnected speedo wire when changing gearbox oil, drove down road afterwards but forgot to reconnect cable. Got back, re-connected cable and now speedo over reads by about 40%.

Help!!

Does anybody have any suggestions? Please tell me that the speedo drive isn't affected by the type of gearbox oil or something mad like that!

Cheers,

Paul (Still love my ZX)

I feel a strong and long term relationship building between me and my newly aquired Z.

Think I'll marry it soon, (wife won't be too impressed)!

The speedo is electronic so there isnt a mechanical cable to drive it - min is 5mph too low!! Either Nissan might be able to do it - or pull the needle off - follow your mate at 30mph and put the needle back on!!

I havent bothered yet!!

It read perfectly before gearbox oil change.

Could leaving the plug off have shorted the speedo head or something?

Does any one know who can repair and re-callibrate electronic speedo heads. I thing Speedograph can do them but rather expensive.

I replaced the speed sensor on the drivers side of the gearbox.

From experience I can tell you that it reads a speed at say 30mph then just loses interest after that and hits the stop. This is shortly to be followed by no power steering as the computer does not know what to do.

Not sure if a diagnostic is available to detect this but I would say that if your power steering is OK then it must be the speedo itself.

Question, has your speedo ever been recalibrated? If it's a Jap Import it may have been. If the conversion is knackered or has a dry joint perhaps it has gone back to reading KMH and hence the over read. Perhaps a wire has fallen out of it. Check under the footwell to see if you can see the mod.

I noticed a 5mph discrepancy the other day, the speedo showed an indicated 155mph, but the avc-r showed 240kph (150mph)

that 5mph makes a big difference!

I've got a handheld GPS unit. I noticed that whatever the Zed read, that the GPS was about 5mph less. This got slightly worse the faster you got.

That would be about right for a factory speedo.
