Hello :)

When starting up my car, already warm, a few seconds into idle I often hear a metallic clunk followed by rattling, like a metal cable vibrating against something also metal. The noise comes from under the centre of the car.

Any ideas what this could be? Handbrake cable maybe?

It goes away after you start moving.

Cheers

Pete

Could be heat sheild on the exhaust.

Think I'm gonna have to jack it up tomorrow to find out. I wouldnt imagine it'd be the exhaust as its a stainless steel mongoose, only a few years old, with decats.

Or is the heatshield bolted above the exhaust? Hmmm could be that then :)

Might tighten the handbrake cables whilst its jacked up to see if thats cure it too.

Cheers

Pete

LOL only kidding :D

That will probably be your exhaust just resting across the support bar underneath, just forward of the middle. I know this because mine does the same. Drives me mad!

Ahh cool cheers Cos :) - have you had a go at stopping it rattling?

No - am sure that it just needs a bracket adjusting/adding.

I'll have a look/listen in the morning and let you know what it is if I can.

Ok - I will be doing a couple more jobs on the car tomorrow anyway, weather permitting ofcourse so call me anytime.

You still got my number?
