Good place to give my Zed a good service in the South East/South?

Hi,

My Zed is due to be collected from docks at Southampton after laying stagment for the past 4 months due to shipping delays back in Japan etc.

I have been told by someone that it would be really bad to drive the car too much after all this time. Somthing about the coolant going stale etc.

Therefore I am in need of a decent place to take my new pride and joy to for a bloody good service. I will may also need a cambelt done depending on what the service history (if I have any) says.

Anyone know a decent place in the South East or surrounding areas. I live in Camberley in Surrey so somewhere near there would be great:)

Cheers,

Justin

Hi Justin,

I'd be interested in any answers to this too, as I'm just down the road from you in Fleet - congrats on the imminent collection of your Z :D

About the only real advice I can give is not to be tempted to visit the Nissan dealer in Aldershot, unless you have bottomless pockets ;) There used to be a place on the Yorktown industrial estate that someone here recommended but I think they've since shut down - I used to pass their sign on the way to and from work and it ain't there no more. There's a jap performance car specialist on the outskirts of Ash Vale, but I've never used them or heard anything about them.

Of, nearly forgot: there's SE Nissan, a Z specialist who have a general recommendation here, they're on the other side of the M25 but they're usually pretty busy.

Can anyone else suggest anything?

Cheers for tha Raz,

I will have to keep an eye out for you in the future.

I think the company you are talking about is called SAS in Aldershot. Bloody expensive though. I asked them about doing some stuff on my MR2 turbo and they wanted £90 per hour to do it!

Think the website is http://www.tuningjapanese.co.uk

Cheers,

Justin

Do it yourself :) you will save a small fortune, and if you get stuck just drop me a line, i'm just down the road from Guildford

Cheers Mathew :) I don't know about Justin, but the extent of my repairing abilities run to topping up fluid levels and that's about it :D My proudest moment is replacing the aerial unit - its much safer being in the boot, away from those millions of engine bits!

Justin: That place you linked to looks like its in a different place to the one I'm thinking of. I tracked down its location on Streetmap, check out this map. Look in the middle where Government Road and the A331 intersect (there's no junction there, Gov road is a flyover). Right where it says "G.RD" on the map is a small roundabout where they've placed their sign. They are somewhere down Hollybush Lane to the north.

Well if you ever get stuck with something, then i'm allways happy to help a fellow zedder :)

Raz,

I think the Japanese specialist you might be talking about is Cooksley and Cobb. I had my MR2 tubs cambelt servive done there about 3 years ago. They were OK I guess without being anything amazing. Not really any cheaper than anyone else.

Still hopefully we will find somewhere soon enough.

Matt,

I have certainly decided that I will do my own small services. Although like Raz I have to say am not that experienced in doing that much. Your help would be greatly appreciated at some point though I am sure. Very good of you to offer:)

I really do think a cambelt service might be too much for me to take on though but maybe it is not as hard as I think it is?

Cheers,

Justin

To be honest its quite an easy job (well i think it is) the hard part is removeing averything to get at it, BUT if you are not happy doing it your self then dont, as it can destroy the engine if done incorrectly!

But for the other bits and bobs, if you get stuck just drop me a line and i'll help! ;) :D

Cheers Matt,

Its nice to know there is someone close by if I have a bit of a DIY disaster doing something to my Zed!:)

Justin

There is a place back of ash eurospec have not got the number to hand but well post if you need the cam belt doing. I would do the oil change my self as its not that bad to do water not that bad just a pain in the ass to get the air locks out. If you need a hand I am in farnborough. Got to do my oil change next week if its dry..

jay

Eurospec... that rings a bell as the name of the garage that used to be in Camberley. Maybe they moved.

Thanks again for the offer Matt, if I don't get far with my current problem I may well be in touch ;)

Guys

My Zed's looked after by a guy called Bob at All Fours. He's based in Farnborough and looks after loads of Jap cars, including Zeds. He does most of the servicing/pre-sale stuff for Magnum Motors, just down the road (where I bought my car).

He's a top bloke, charging about £35/hour. Certainly knows his stuff. Just don't be put off by the small workshop. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I will give him a call soon and see what he can do for me.

So you think all the fluids should be fine in my motor then?
