Evening Chaps

A conversation with a tuner about fitting electronic boost control the other day suggested to me that my stock fuel pump in my z isn't up to the job and I will be running lean at 14psi. What do you think? I've not got bigger injectors - I'm not really planning to go above 14psi at this moment in time either. Thanks!

Sorry about this but

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D

Whoever told you that shouldn't ever be allowed near your car! The Z32 fuel pump is known as one of the STRONGEST oem pumps - there's not much out there that can beat it!

The Zed TT fuel pump is capable of 500+bhp.

You don't need a new fuel pump.

I think he's talking complete *****cks, not from around Tamworth way was he?

EDIT: Damn you Duff, you post gazumping fool.

Ah! Thanks for that. :-) Guess his estimate for 10 hours labour for setting up the electronic boost control was b*****ks too! Gonna do that myself anyway.

He quoted you WHAT??? WTF is this guy playing at? Who was it?

He was down in Wales, don't want to say who cos he seemed very helpful on lots of other stuff. He did say to get rid of the boost jets ASAP which seems like good advice. The conversation about the fuel pump came after he learned the mileage, which is 130,000. Still, sounds like it's ok. I'm going to get the bits in the USA and bring them back, take advantage of the weak dollar. Then I'll have a go at setting up the AVCR myself.

I'm not surprised he said get rid of the boost jets - @ 10 hours labour he could afford a nice holiday :D

:( It often seems with aftermarket tuning you can really pay WAY over the odds for very little labour, just cos they know where the doobrey firkin widget is located and you don't, for example the £400 boost upgrade on my old Renault, which consisted of a number drill through the back of the actuator servo, and a diode soldering into the water temperature sensor. All of 20 mins work. Thank god for forums like these! For sure I will be posting here again when I come to fit the AVC-R.

Its a fairly simple task if you have basic tools and take your time - and check everything 3 times! There are some excellent write ups out there - maybe worth a bit of a read now to get the basic idea ;)

If you get stuck fitting the Apexi AVC-R them feel free to ask me or anyone else on here, we're all very helpfull and will help you out!

I'm sure AndyDuff, etc would agree with me on this one: We need a 'Rogue Traders' section!

I recommend from now on, anyone visiting a tuning company for the first time should be wired up with the latest in hidden cameras / microphones and share the ridiculum with the masses afterwards! :)

Seriously though, I'd insist on getting 2 or 3 quotes for _any_ work you might be having done (unless of course they're a trusted outfit).

Regards

Simon.

Well beat this,i was a year ago quoted £1000 to have a boost controler set up and put it on the rollers, very shocked, and last year met with a few peeps who had huge bills for little work from the same well known performance specialist, they will not be going there again :eek:I'm fookin sick of so called SPECIALISTS ripping people off that just happen to own a Jap performance car,and its getting worse, have known more examples later last year :(

Tony

And lets not forget the dodgy traders doin the same when selling fookin shit heaps
