X-Box as good car games too, like Sega GT and the Gotham Project Racing 2. The Gotham racing 2 is said to be one of the best games of all times. I have never played it myself.

Stuart

Until GT4 comes out, then *they* will be jumping bandwagon to the GT4 roadtrain steamrollering its way past ;)

How many times can I give advice that cancels each other out?!

Just buy em both and burn the one you dont like.

Microsoft do have good steering wheels, have used srrae's for his pc, if the xbox ones are like it, then itll be a very good wheel. assuming you can be arsed to get it out and set it up everytime you play ;)

You cant say too much about the PS3. The X-Box-2 is also due in a few years, but wont be called X-Box-2 and is said to blow the top arcade machines away.

There is no point talking about future consoles as you will never buy ones as you will be always be waiting for the latest. When you finally do dive in a buy a top of the range one, it will cost you over £300.

Now is a good time to get one. It will be out dated in 2-3 years time, but both are quite cheap now and have a large amount of games.

True the PS2 has more choice of games but are you really going to buy Colin McRae Rally 3 when 4 is out and 5 being developed?

Are you going to buy GT2 or GT3 when GT4 is coming out soon? NO!

Will you buy Fifa 2002 when Fifa World Cup will be out soon? No. So that take away 40% of all the PS2 games which are just sequals.

Stuart

bit of a sweeping statement, exactly the same is true of the xbox.

Project gotham 2?? or did the first one not count cos it was so bad? ;)

oddworld:muches oddesey - sequel

nfl - same

fifa - same

dead or alive - same

halo2 - same

grand theft auto3 - same

lord of the rings: the poo towers - same

sims - same

medal of honour - same

ssx3 - same

sega gt 200x - same

colin mcrae - same

simpsons road rage - leads the way for a whole host of official simpsons games no doubt ;)

maybe id be better off listing the ones that arent sequels?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/748310/ref=br_bx_1_c_2_3/026-1821169-6014809 im struggling to find any there.

so maybe discount the same %age of games :P

Considering the PS2 has been out for a year and half longer there are more squals out for it.

Saying there are more games out for it makes no difference unless you are after buying all the games out for it.

Lets say there are 2000 games for the PS2, how many can you still buy? Most of them will be out of production.

ps2 all the way, game play is everything, graphics count for a small amont, xbox is gf4 based and is still in learning curve really,

metal gear sons of liberty, tell me that aint a fun game

I've got both and I prefer the Xbox. The HDD autosave is just so hassle free. :D

Although recently one of my mate's Xbox HDD went tit's up, losing ALL of his game saves, so now I back up my important saves to a memory card as well as HDD.

Project Gotham 2 is excellent btw!!

Technicaly, X-Box is GF 2.5, or was it GF 3.5?

Ryan, I have a PS2 and my housemate has an X-Box, you could come round and have a go on both if you like.

Baggins,

Regarding wheels and pedal sets, you probably don't need to worry about it narrowing your choices.

A mate of mine at work is a real driving game nut too, and has a kick-ass wheel and pedals set that he uses for Grand Prix Legends on the PC. The point of this is that, like a lot of PC stuff these days, they plug in via a USB socket, which is what the PS2 just happens to have too - result: great choice of serious kit for your games :D

No doubt the Xbox has a good range of stuff too. Though, now that I think about it, I don't think it has a USB connection... I think it just has its own controller ports. Lemme check the ones we have lying around the office.

Update:

Yep, looks like it's just proprietary connections on the Xbox, although one of the guys here reckons you might be able to get an adaptor that'll do the trick.

You can get a Xbox controller socket to USB converter for about £5.

Believe it or not the controllers are just USB.

£85.00

I'm thinking worth every penny!! :)

Matty.

which has the best most realistic car games ??

GT4 [will be] the most realistic car game ever in history ever, ever! So it's PS2 by that criterion. I haven't heard any rumours of a GT4-killer coming for the XBox... anyone?

My oldest lad has Xbox and youngest has PS2 I thought the racing games would be the best , but I find things like Halo and Dessert Storm 2 are much better. I think Xbox controlers better. It all personal pref

game play is everything,

Why do people always say that. As if an exact conversion of a PS2 and Xbox game and peopel say the PS2 is better game play and the developers inform you that they are exact copies of each other.

If game play is all that mattes you would be playing Spectrum, C64 and Amiga games all the time ;)

They are the most "Playable" games ever made.

Its just the sterility of the whole aura that the xbox brings to the situation, its amazing ;) porting from ps2 to xbox makes the game lose something on the way.

wahahah

Speaking as one of those developers, this may seem nitpicky but you will never actually get the exact same game (in terms of code) on two different consoles. Even if the gamecode itself remains unchanged the lower level libraries will be completely different. As I say, this may seem nitpicky but perhaps it isn't really: these libraries contain the code responsible, say, for taking input from the controllers and for rendering the visual to the screen. Without getting into technicalities, any subtle changes in those two areas between different consoles may well make a detectable difference to the player.

Now that's damn right :D I still haven't seen a better vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up since Battle Squadron on the Amiga ;)

Which one is better before I go spending my hard earned ££:)
 Hi just replying to your question reference consoles, my partner has been a gamer for over 20 years and loves his driving games, and in his experience, he has noticed that most games that arent made by sony and microsoft tend to be released on both consoles anyway. There are only one major race title on each machine Gran Turismo 3 [sony PS2] and project gotham racing 2 [Microsoft Xbox]

All you need to do is try each of these games and decide which one you like best and buy the console based on that decision because all other race games will be available on both machines.

I would also recommend need for speed underground if you enjoy modifying cars and also enjoyed the fast and the furious movies.

If you require any more info feel free to ask.

Cheers ;)

Ahmen, lol :D

S'cuse me for jumping in a bit late... Xbox, reflashed BIOS, 200GB harddrive. More fun than you can swing a cat at. DVD playback (with or without the official kit), DivX player, MP3's, a stack of emulators... and of course, the ability to back up all your originals(!) then play them straight of the HDD. Leaving one standard is like driving a unmodified Z - fun, but restricted. PS2?.. DVD-R's everywhere? No thanks.

Well thanks for all your reply's and information people , I think the only think to do is as Lady Stardust has said and play both with there best car gaming offerings then make a decision based on that. Cheers Ryan
