I've just bought an X box as well as already owning a PS2. I am really impressed with the graphics and the fact that you don't have to bugger about with a memory card.

Unfortunately I need to get an upgraded scart lead so I can run it throgh the amp for digital sound but that should be good when I get around to it.

Amazon are doing some good deals on the x box at the mo

I would personally go with the X-Box.

No matter how much PS2 people say, the X-Box has got better graphics and sounds. The fact you have a HDD to save your games saves money on buying memory cards and having to delete games to save more on. Its got a 8Gb HDD which is more than enough to save all your saved games on.

I also hear the DVD playback is better on the X-Box too. I cant comment on that as I havent seen the PS2 DVD playback, but the reviews I saw almost all commented on that.

Personally I think the X-Box is made for the adult and not children. You can tell this by the large game pad which is very comfortable to use.

Stuart

Xbox - mod it and link up to PC for home entertainment system.

Mine is linked up to my pc and plays music vidz, etc

The DVD playback on the PS2 is ok but the remote contol you can get for it is rubbish IMO

I haven't tried the X box dvd playback yet so I can't comment on that but the controllers are great .. I love the two triggers instead of the buttons of the PS2 controller and it is defo more comfortable to hold.

There are also a wide range of games now .. I got Halo and Midtown madness 3 with mine for about £130.00 ..

Halo is fantastic .. and I can't wait for Halo 2 which is coming out soon.

If you are a big fan of GTA and Vice City I would think these games would be much better on the X box as well rather then the PS2

Cheers guys , its the car games I am interested in , will be linking it up to a projector if this is possible , so its looking like the Xbox then :D

Sounds cool .... There is one thing I do remember but I am sure someone with more knowledge on the subject will correct me.

I seem to remember reading that the X box can damage some projectors so I would suggest you check that it is going to be cool with your projector mate.

For car games is it dependent on how badly you want GT4.

X-Box as good car games too, like Sega GT and the Gotham Project Racing 2. The Gotham racing 2 is said to be one of the best games of all times. I have never played it myself.

Stuart

I guess the Xbox would be the best to go

personally I've had ps2 since new and I had a ps1 and I just prefer the playstation.

cheers for that will check as I am pretty sure it will not go down to well if I fry the company Projector  :D

I am sure it said something about damaging some projectors mate .... will have a look tonight for you if you wan't

Unless you're a serious fan of one machine or the other it really comes down to what games you want.

Technically, the Xbox currently has the edge, but the PS3 will be along before too long and then that will be the best, then a new Xbox will appear and back and forth we go :D

In my opinion if you want the best serious racing game around you really cannot beat Gran Turismo, which is currently PS2 exclusive. Project Gotham 2 is good (I've played it only briefly) but it doesn't run at full framerate - personally I feel this is a big negative for a racing game.

Take a look at what games you want to play, then get the machine that runs the most ;)

No any console can damage projectors. Its not just X-Box.

Consoles are so presice in displaying colours that it can end up bruning the screen if that area of the screen stays the same for a long period of time. Pausing the game for a period of time will cause the most damage

Stuart

as a point of interest games developers already have the ps3 devkits :) I have a freind in the industry who's gonna get his hands on one soon, no games though lol

Ok so who is gonna let me play Gran Turismo and Project Gotham 2 .......have Zed will travel but not to far , can you play these games in dixons etc ???:D

how far are you as i have both fitted in the car...........i have all the consoles and each one has its good and bad points long term the x-box will tide you over till the ps3 comes along and when it does it will decimate all........if you want lots of games though then its ps2 i know x-box and ps2 can both be chipped easily as mine are but you cant beat the ps2 for sheer choice of games

I have both, xbox and ps2. Xbox is better, not alot in it but the DVD playback on the PS2 isnt as good as the Xbox.

Project gotham 2 is S**T, get Need for Speed underground, it is the Japanese Car enthusiasts essential car game and is also the boll*x!!!:D

You cant say too much about the PS3. The X-Box-2 is also due in a few years, but wont be called X-Box-2 and is said to blow the top arcade machines away.

There is no point talking about future consoles as you will never buy ones as you will be always be waiting for the latest. When you finally do dive in a buy a top of the range one, it will cost you over £300.

Now is a good time to get one. It will be out dated in 2-3 years time, but both are quite cheap now and have a large amount of games.

True the PS2 has more choice of games but are you really going to buy Colin McRae Rally 3 when 4 is out and 5 being developed?

Are you going to buy GT2 or GT3 when GT4 is coming out soon? NO!

Will you buy Fifa 2002 when Fifa World Cup will be out soon? No. So that take away 40% of all the PS2 games which are just sequals.

Stuart

I have had several of them both!!?? and from a person who does "backups" of his games and titles available i would have to go for the PS2. DOnt get me wrong the x-box is better for graphics, memory but there's not that much in it and what do you want one for....to play games on so go for the one with the most titles!!! PS2 it is!!

Anyway if your thinking about an X-box i wouldnt yet anyway as the x-box 2 is out at christmas.

Kirbz

ok I will only play car games , so will be looking for steering wheel pedals etc , not really interested in any other games , does this make a difference because at the moment I am none the wiser  which has the best most realistic car games ??

Well, I've spent the best part of my day playing 'driving' games on my PS2........have played others games on X-Box but I prefer the playability of PS2 driving games.

And with GT4 on it's way and looking superb, I'm glad I own a PS2.....

Matty.

I would say ps2, as they have better graphics and sounds, the fact you dont have a hdd is a billy bonus, as microsft will end up shagging it anyways, hell, buy loads of memory cards, its only money. I know the ps2 dvd playback is totally better, but hey, who gives a toss about that, you got your own dvd system, right? any first rate home entertainment system has a standalone dvd player (warning danger to mains system). Personally i think the xbox looks like it was designed by children for pseudo adults. You can tell this by the stupisly oversized pad which is terribly uncomfortable to use.

Alternatively, you'd need to decide what games you want to play, because they vary on each system, and neither is really better, they do what they do very well. At the end of the day xbox may have more processor power and graphics, but the ps2 looks far from crap and hey, sound...when yr playing it thru TV speakers, they sound about as good as each other ;)

Probably go for xbox tho :D

Cos it has better graphics and sound of course, and the hdd.

Hey need to read the whole thread first.

PS2 no diggity, no doubt.
