Why I shouldnt rip out 25-30 kg's worth of air con while the engines out - to improve airflow to the engine and reduce weight. I mean, if it gets that hot in the summer I can just take the bloomin roof of!

Good idea, same thought crossed my mind, and so happens mine needs re gassing, and has a very small leak that has got to be located:rolleyes: more exspense for some thing i hardly ever used anyway, and last summer had tops off a lot of the time:cool:

Tony

Ripped all mine out, and the one big thing you notice is after giving it some welly and the temp gauge has gone up it comes back down so much quicker , it also does not go anyway near as high temp wise as it used to when the air con was in place , Go for it Adam :D

Think if i get time will do same Ryan, fairly straight forward to do i should think, but knowing my luck:rolleyes: :D

quite easy to do Tony although a little messy when the gas escapes , the other added advantage is removing something else that the underdrive pulley has to drive all though if your compessor is in good working condition the effects will be minimal when the AC is not working , as soon as the AC comes on it robs quite alot of power from the pulley

Taking the roof off is not always the best option though. When it is really hot and you are stuck in traffic, taking the roof off makes things worse. ;)

Sometimes when is it is really hot, the only way to cool down is to have the windows up, roof on and have the air con on.

But it is what you are after what counts. I want my car to still be luxary and comforable.

I could never exist without air-con. Its miserable in the summer without it, shirt sticking to your back with sweat, etc.

Whatever power it takes from the engine, or whatever else, its well worth it.

When Im at the traffic lights in the middle of summer, windows up, listening to the radio without outside noise, and I look alongside and see the poor *******s in the car, all windows down, red faced and sweating, Im glad I have air-con, at any price!

When going on holiday to Scotland I had the aircon on most of the way. Taking the T-Tops off for motorway driving for 320 miles is not as nice as it sounds.

I think it really depends on what you want from your car tbh , mine is not my daily driver so only used occasionally , last summer I don't think I used the air con once , once the air con is tuned on the water temp jumps approx 10 degrees add this to the fact that the car is already running at 90 degrees in the summer and your running 100 + degrees everywhere , I think if your looking for big power like Tony and Adam then getting the car to run as cool as possible is important , and this really does make a big difference imho.

My aircon was knackered for a couple of years and although it is not my daily driver, I found myself leaving it in the garage on hot weekends. There is so much glass around the cabin, it's like being in a mini greenhouse... Taking the roof off didn't really solve the problem either :(

Got it fixed now and would not do without it...

Doesn't sound very nice to me... :p :D

Try taking the ttops here when the temp is 43-45 degrees its like sunbathing :)

I think they're saying "Keep the a/c and lose some weight, lardarse !". LOL :D

I'd loose it :) I don't use mine, I love the roof off on a long journey doing 140mph, :) its part of the fun of having a removable roof.

 be careful Mike make sure your seatbelts are tight at that speed because of your size your likely to get sucked out with the roof off :p :D

All I have done is taken the belt off!

Will replace it in the summer.

Arthur

While you're in there, you might as well remove all the HICAS gubbins too. Apparently saves about 30kg if you remove all the pipes as well.

Obviously you need to put an eliminator on the back as well!

Remove HICAS? How would that affect the steering? It seems an over complexity to my humble mind.

is there a way of stopping the HICAS working, but not removing the rack etc? its just that my steering wheel is not straight at all and i get a constant warning light about it but there appears to be nothing else wrong with it and its just the unstraight steering wheel confusing it into thinking im turning constantly etc. i just need a quick fix until i can ge the tracking sorted and wheel straightened up.

cheers, Ed

See post mentioned above. Essentially the easiest way to do it is short the level sensor on the fluid resevoir.

luv my aircon hate my heater roll on summer

Done it now anyway.

AndyP, who you callin lardarse you midget $hit'ouse :slap:
