another possible write off

this seems to be a depressingly common occurance with us zed owners at the mo but...i had a crash on sunday. went on a grass verge smashed two concrete posts in half and demolised a road sign all with the drivers door. i ended up in a ditch on the other side of the road.

was bloody lucky really as on my way into the ditch i went between 2 trees that were closer together then the car is long...so went through at exactly the right angle to miss them. also missed a second road sign by a few inches too.

its amazing how un-touched most of the car is...but my door took all the impact of the posts and sign so is completely smashed. its moved in so far it kinda looks like ive got a wide arse kit on that side! :D does anyone know of someone in the nottingham area that could look to see if there is any chassis damage?

also when i rang the RAC i told them i was in a ditch and they said it would be ok to recover my car, but in the end i wound up paying for it...they would only pay for the tow back as it was off the road. trouble is i was offered a tow out of the ditch by someone with a four by four which i turned down as the RAC said they would do it. anything similar happened to anyone else?

any advice greatfully recieved!

well i have had an offer of 2k for it. does that sound good?

i'd love to get it repaired but im in my first year of uni and just cannot afford to spend any more money on it...the whole car seems to be bent, it would cost loads to repair.

think im gonna go with the offer of 2 grand.

it seems like im losing out loads after having spent so much on it but i dont know i'd get any more for her...any views greatfuly recieved before i make my decision tonight!

Hi Edd,

shame u cant keep it, cant u do some of the repairs yourself?

Take it u were insured third party only?

2k seems fair tho, a good Z (white auto) near me sold for 3k last mnth.

Or perhaps try ebay?

unfortunately not, mechanically its 100% sound...ive driven bout 100 miles since, its all body work stuff and theres some welding needed to repair the floor. and yeah only 3rd party unfortunatley.

Have u got any pics of the damage?

If youre interested, the guy that does my servicing works from his uncles garage,

called Autobody repairs , but its in Highbridge Somerset, miles away.

The reason im saying this is because his uncle, Pat, does bodywork very cheap, he repairs write offs every day of the week - chassis work and whatever else.

Here's the funny bit - he's so cheap because he is 73 years old! But believe me he

is good!

I reversed me Alfa into a post and he took the bumper off, pulled the dents out , filled and sprayed , got it back good as new, for £35!

I would imagine the 2k youve been quoted would be more like 5 or 6 hundred with Pat.

Just thought id mention it, if youre interested i'll let u have his number.

hmmm, very tempting! but it wld be pretty risky as the MOT has just run out and if i was to get pulled over i would be in a fair bit of trouble

i think im gonna go ahead and sell up as i cant really afford to repair or run the car as insurance is so high

if i change my mind i'll get in touch with ya mate, thanks very much for the offer tho!
