Hope you guys can help. I was out in the Z a couple of weeks ago and it just cut dead on me. Tried starting it again and it just wouldn't fire, so I got the AA to take it to the local dealer (only option unfortunately!).

They tried it a couple of times and confirmed it wouldn't start, so I left it overnight for them to tackle in the morning....then the next day it worked no problem at all. Dealer thinks it might be the ignition amplifier but didn't want to fit it because of the £400 cost. Apparently no other errors come up on the Consult either.

At the moment there just seems to be an intermittent fault, car runs perfectly and then you go to pull away from a standstill and the revs just die. It also seems to mis-fire when accelerating on a light throttle.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

John

Damn that could be a lot of things...

Do an ECU check yourself - don't believe them when they say the Consult came up clean.

Check the CAS - wiggle the connector, does the car die?

Hmm... Lots more things - but if I were you, I'd do an ECU diag and take it from there (the procedure is in the tech section of twinturbo.net, and it's dead easy)

Sounds very much like an ignition amplifier problem (I had the same). The only slightly funny thing is the miss-fire, I never had that. All your other symptoms are exactly like I had when my ingition amplifier went south.

I would say PTU, ignition amplifier!

Shouldn't cost 400 sovs though, mine cost about 230 squid...piece of piss to change aswell! Hmmmm... what's that I smell from Nelson....BULLSHIT! RIP-OFF!

Ring around my friend, I was once told that a cambelt change on my Toyota Supra would take three days labour and god knows how much. Then took a grip of my senses and phoned my local Toyota dealer, they did it on a Saturday morning, about 250 quid later and never had a problem in 30,000 miles! Be careful!
