I bought my jap-spec TT back in April last year and noticed that it still had its warning flare tucked up in the passenger footwell. All the instructions are in japanese, so I have no idea how to use it (not that I would ever want to!). The best before date was 1996. As such, I don't want to use it or throw it away and risk some kids finding it.

I've been told they're illegal over here, so I'm also not too keen on passing it over to the police...what to do?

I'd love to, but it's 8 years out of date! I can't understand the instructions either so it would be very embarrassing sitting in casualty trying to explain away my thrid degree burns...

Pete takes his to the local charity shop.

Oh no, thats "flares".

Actually, I woud doubt any plod would be nasty for handing in this sort of thing - especially if you explained to them first.

Or why not try the Fire Brigade? TopLess, got any advice?

just pull it apart - then turn the lid round and spark the flint... nothing vrey spectacular happens!! But if you don't fancy that, as was said, the local fire brigade should be able to dispose of it.

And afaik, the police could take a VERY dim view of carrying it...

Cheers Rich - If that's all it is then I'll just hand it in to the FB. I'm sure they've seen them before anyway. :)

Fire brigade or Coast Guard would be my suggestion.

Coatguard will defiently dispose of it, they have to for out of date boat flares.

I wouldn't wander into a police station with a flare though you may get in trouble, phone them up first and they will advise you.

Thanks guys

I dont see how flares could be illegal, boat owners simply buy them from a boat shop, in fact, I think boat owners can buy the flare guns that shoot magnesium flares, (they would burn a hole through you the size of a football)

John

Just go into your back yard and let it off. It aint gonna bite ya! Unless of course your mum don't let you play with matches!! :p

Illegal  I did not know that.

I'll have to ask 'er down the pub wot works in Waste Management what to do with it then!

eerrr cheers Gio!!!!!!!!!!!

In reality it is a firearm or explosive so my guess would be to give it the local police or they will know where to go with it!

DO NOT LET IT OFF!

If anyone does recognise it for what it is, they will uselessly call out the emergency services, and then the person who set it off could be charged! Secondly if someone is in real need of the emergency service, then their local response team will be preoccupied and a team further away will take longer to get there!

Also what people dont realise is that fireworks and flares burn at 1000 degrees, it takes a fraction of a second of skin contact for permaneant scarring to take place, OR WORSE!

They're not illegal. Its just that they have to be removed to pass an SVA test.

If they get put back after it is no problem. My local import dealer has a box of them and gave me a handful.

We set off a 2000 june one yesterday and it basically burned like a static firework for about 8 minutes with a flame about 2 inches long.

When they are out of date it just means that they may not work anymore - not that they will blow up. Probably wont light if very old.

Its always handy to keep one in the car, just in case of emergencies, especially if some road rage tosser decides to try and attack you, simply reach over and strike up your flare, poke him in the face with it and escape quickly!!!

On second thoughts, PLEASE NOTE, FOR ALL OF YOU WITH NO SENSE OF HUMOUR, THIS IS A JOKE!!! SO DO NOT REALLY CONSIDER THIS!!!:D

1. insert into cat's rectum.

2. light blue touch paper.

3. be sensible! remember to stand well back

tie it to an aerosol and throwv it into a fire!

we have to set off airbags & seatbelt tensioners before disposing of them - always good for a laugh :D

we put a 25l plastic container on one once, it cleared the roof of our workshop!!

do go with a bang too, set one off in the parts dept once - parts guys run out after nearly sh!tting their pants!!

ive still got my flair still in my car and iam itching to let mine of

i was going to at new year but forgot.
