Wheels

Ive just been offered some 18" Split Rim 5 spoke wheels with a deep dish. 2nd Hand but very good condition, rubber is pretty good too. They have come of a 300zx so no probs there.

However the guy wants a grand - no offers.

Is that a fair price?

depends what make they are

Hi Jay

Split rims are expensive in the first place, so if they are in good condition and more importantly, you like them, then that would seem a fair price.

But, as Scoops says, it depends on what make they are and how much a new set would cost you.

Also what make are the tyres? If they are budget cr@p then who cares how much tread is left, you've got to replace them.

Cheapo tyres + Zed = car in ditch/tree etc!!;)

Chech the condition of the rims carefully for hairline cracks etc. before you buy.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

not sure on make, I'll find out

they are Hankook tyres though (I think)

Again I'l find out and if I can get a pic

Cheers

Yeah splits are expensive - the receipt I inherited is for 1200 quid and that was 3 years ago for 17s! So that's potentially a good buy...

If they came off a Z then that implies the PCD is right but the current owner might still have used spacers to get the offset right and/or a spacer for the bore - worth checking that out.

Some garages can be a bit funny about splits - the idea is they're easier to change tyres because you only need hand tools, but the downside is the rim can launch itself off the wheel whilst you're doing it, removing the limbs of any mechanics standing nearby! I'm sure this wouldn't concern a professional...

Oh yeah, and I heard somewhere they give better sidewall support - is that true? In which case should improve cornering or at least tyre life under hard cornering?
