I have been having problems recently with a lumpy tick over, and a misfire at high revs. My car seems to not like been left too long without being driven. I got in after xmas and the tickover was lumpier than Nora Battys cellulite. After a few days though it was running fairly nice with a few dips everynow and then. I thought I had resolved this when I cleaned loads of green gunk out of the contacts on top of each cylinder. At the same time as all this was going on I noticed that when I hoofed it at the top of the rev range it would sort of misfire, not banging as such more of a dull thud at machine gun rate. So I cleaned out the greenstuff and the tickover is now sorted, but the misfire is still there. Its weird as the car is totally smooth up until the last third of the throttle travel. At which point it feels like its losing power is very lumpy. I'm hoping its going to be something stupid like crappy spark plugs.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Cheers

I take it you mean the contacts on the coils? could be a defective coil if they were badly corroded

obviously check the plugs, but also check & clean the contacts on the PTU - could also be corroded (may as well clean all other terminals under the bonnet while your there, TPS, CAS temp sensor etc)

And double check you've pushed the connectors down all the way. One of mine was a couple of mm out and would cause an intermitent misfire.

Cheers will check tomorrow - though I'm wondering if anyone else can "feel" the difference in the throttle when pressing the acceleratorin there Auto box. At say 40 mph there are bout 3 definite stages that you can feel, underfoot as opposed to just acceleration. YES YES YES I know how many gears there are, but you can feel with the throttle when it is likely to change down or give that extra bit of piss. With mine it is JUST that extra bit of piss that is causing the problem 99.9% of the time I can simplly use 2 thirds of the power to piss off Mr Asshole. But its JUST two thirds of the cake man!!!!

Cheers
