Hi,

Finishing my TT conversion off in the next couple of days!!

I thought I had a fully functioning and complete HKS EVC with which to control the boost, because I was using an NA loom! But this HKS EVC is looking dubious and it might have to be replaced!

In the meantime am I right in thinking I could just plumb the turbos and actuators in, and presume this would just operate at stock boost!

Stock boost would be what I want anyway until I have run the engine in!!

I would assume safety boost which is what your actuators should be (I think) loads of turbo cars just run off actuator settings without the electronic gizmos so I dont see why you cant.

Paul

If you have stock actuators on stock turbos then yes you can plumb them in, giving you a stock 7psi, and if u also have the stock boost solenoids u'll get 9.5psi.

I thought the solenoids gave you safety boost when activated by the ECU, so they should give 9psi when not connected?

dont think so because solenoids/controllers can only bleed air off at the actuator to give higher boost, you cant force the wastegate spring to open sooner.

When you set your controller to minimum with the stock solenoids disconnected you get safety boost so thats what you will get.

Its too late to work it out now anyway, just wait till duffer gets up and gives a 500 word explination LOL

I believe the solenoids default position is open, bleeding off air and giving 9.5psi. When the ecu gives the word they close giving 7psi.

I was just saying you will get only 7psi if you dont have the stock solenoids, if putting in an engine with a boost controller i know i wouldnt have left the stock ones on.

Actually im not sure which position they are in by default. I've just read 2 threads saying the opposite.

I still stick by my original reply of without 'em u'll have 7psi, with em ull have 9.5.:p

well whatever it is its enough to run an engine in with LOL

Where do these figures of 7psi safety and 9.5psi stock come from? I've read the manual and asked tech gurus and can't find any Nissan publication which gives these figures at all.

So are they invented, an urban myth that "everyone knows" or official?

yrs pedantically - Gio

Well I've been in PaulC's car and SMW1's car when they were both on safety boost and it was reading 7psi.

I guess its just a case of plumbing in a boost gauge on a stock car.

Remember it's not "safety boost", it's standard and extended (or something similar). So default is 7psi and extended when the BSCV's open, as controlled by the ECU, is 9.5psi.

Agree with Gio about the actual numbers though - not seen that in the official manual.

The manual lists simply "high" or "low" pressure when th solenoids are open or shut
