1, never, EVER ask if auto or manual is the best!! :D (ps its manual ;) )

2, check our online buyers guide in the FAQs at the top of the screen

3, check our for sale section for a start

good luck

There are several guide available detailing what you need to look for. If buying a TT pay particular attention to the sections on boost etc - failed/failing turbos can be very costly to fix.

Having recently bought a Jap spec '90 TT short wheelbase, I can offer the following advice:

DO NOT buy the first car you drive before you've have a look around at what else is on offer.

Try to establish when the timing belt etc was changed, if not do it immeditely and hence budget for the job as part of the purchase.

Fresh Jap imports are likely to have much better bodywork, but no service history, so be prepared to start doing everything on the car to maintain your investment.

IMHO, manual is the only way to go for real performance.

If the car is laden with add-on gadgets make sure they all work.

Think carefully about the running costs - insurance is likely to be high, maintenance is not too bad if you use a specialist/do it yourself, but the fuel bills can be horrid.

Make sure you can get a proper look under the car - I had the one I eventually bought up on the ramps at the garage for a good poke about.

I'm sure others will add much much more.

But on the plus side, when you get into your TT and sink the boot, you'll smile like you've never smiled before. Great car, always wanted one, hasn't disappointed me AT ALL :)

Cheers guys, ive got my Scooby up for sale and im on the lookout for a Z. Is it a myth that the auto engines are less likely to be abused?

If any1 is thinking of selling, email me some details at boro@scoobymad.co.uk.

Ideally Black with leather and manual, upto about £5k.

Cheers

In general with autos on all car makes, the upshifts are always at the right point so it's less likely to have been screamed - but of course ou can manually hold it in gear...

Best bits of advice I can offer are...........

Buy from this forum........owners on here love their Z's.......

Search this forum.........(using the search option!) ;)

DO NOT buy from a dealer, unless people from this forum have brought from them and they have given a top service to that person.............

Don't buy the first one you see........

Test drive a few...........

Learn what to look for from the buyers guide on this forum.........

Service History is a MUST...........even if it is only from first registration on an import (you will see it's had it's oil changes, etc)

Buy from this forum...........

Buy from this forum...............

Pete's selling his J-Spec Z..........it's red and auto though.......

Manual or Auto? Your choice but I prefer an auto, so that what I have........still as fast as fook withj a shorter turbo spool up time than a manual and no lag inbetween gear changes either... ;) plus I'm just pain lazy............:D

But black is a good colour choice........my Z is black........

My Z......

And.........

My Z again......

And one more........ ;)

Last one........

Black is best...........but Pete's is a nice motor!! :D

Matty.

Nice example!

Not too worried about manual/auto, maybe persuaded to have another colour as long as it looks the part. Ive checked out a couple in the for sale sectiona, not sure if i emailed pete.

If any1 has a nice example for sale around 5k, email me.

I would rather buy from the forum, as i know it'll probably be a looked after one. Just gotta find me a car now.

Any1 fancy an impreza? ;)

Speak to Pete.........he's selling as he needs to get something 'sensible' as a baby is due!!

Paul - if you want any info, specific pictures etc of mine  drop me an email: nospampeter_edgar@hotmail.com (lose the "nospam bit, its for spam avoidance purposes ;) )

Yeah buying from this forum will give you a history of the car whilst its been owned which gives some peace of mind not available usually.

Condition is the big factor, not transmission type - each have their own performance and driveability aqdvantages.

Cheers and good luck

Gottit? ;)

Any mods, make sure they're installed properly. I had a problem a week after I bought mine - the S-AFC harness was not properly insulated and shorted out a load of other cables under the dash!

On the test drive you have to drive it like you stole it - lots of rattles, twitchiness, dead spots won't show up til you drive it HARD. If the owner complains about that then walk away...

I bought the first one I saw - and as a result, there is SORN paperwork on my desk as I type...

Some good advice here. Oh yeah, dont buy the first one you look at too ;)

Hehehehehe

Well, my scoob is sold and being picked up by the new owner on Sunday :(

So, that means i have £5k to spend on a Z, no more £5k is the max as i still need to buy the missus a family car with the rest of the money.

Ive had a few emails for ppl on here so ill be looking seriously at these over the next few days.

If any1 else has their Z for sale, email me at boro@scoobymad.co.uk. £5k max.

Cheers,

Paul (looking forward to my new toy!!!!)
