Short Shifter

On a manual I have replaced my gearknob with a small alloy round one with blue led's :o

However, now the leather does not come up to meet the bottom of the new knob.

So I thought why not kill 2 birds with one stone, I like the idea of a short-shifter (I presume the gear change is quicker due to a shorter throw)

So. . . . .

Can I just hacksaw off the top inch or whatever then remount the new knob?

Would this be the same as buying a short shifter or is there some other fundamental difference?

Ignore this - I just found out they have a longer bit at the bottom too. I forgot all about the SEARCH feature ;)

I think you need to saw an inch of the top of the stick and weld it into the bottom (below the pivot)
