My main lights are incredibly crap. I have to run my front fogs on all the time to see where I'm going. It looks like the lenses may be cloudy or steamed up? Any advice?

Thanks,

Ice

Cos is developing some inserts to make the lights chromed inside. This should increase the amount of light which get out onto the road. The lights are also old and have 10 years of dust and dirt in them. If you wanted you could try take them out and give them a clean. You should be able to see the light bulb behind the glass but you often cant.

Other suggestions are get higher wattage bulbs which are illegal and will only last a few weeks, or get Xenon light set, which are very expensive.

I did see an improvement when I bought a pair of H3 Bosch Xenon bulbs from Halfords, about £16 a pair if I remember correctly.

The Xenon bulbs are not real Xenons. The Xenons I am talking about are the HID/Xenon. The bulbs themselves are about £100 each but will last for over 10 years.

This is what I mean.

No one knows.

They are about £900 for the lot, bulbs, light units (Which looks great :D) and relays. They are meant to be a lot better. They where only available on the very late Japanese Zs and I cant see them doing them if they are not good. Not many people in the US have the as they shine the wrong direction for them. Cars which drive on the left have the lights shine more to the left so you can see the path and dont blind oncoming traffic. So in the US they shine the wrong way.

I am planning on getting some (Fingers crosses if I ever do get the money soon) so I may be able to tell you. I am getting them because of same reason you are posting about. I gave my dad a lift home at night in the Z and he told me to put my lights on, I said they where, he then said put the dip lights on and not just side lights. He was a little shocked when I said the dips where on.

The exchange rate to buy from the US is great at the moment. When I frist looked at the lights they where over £1200, but now they are around £900 I think.

I will keep you posted on whether I am getting them and if they are any good if/when I get them.

Hi ICE

Do a search on PIAA bulbs + clean inside of your lenses.

PIAA is one of the good options in my opinion.

Good luck

Arhur

OK thanks.

Which model number do I need of the Super Whites and how do I clean the lens - with a rag?

Thanks

Ice

interesting this coz mines the same, at night on an unlit road you cant see owt. I actually stopped and checked coz it looked like sidelights only were on but the dipped was on. My lenses look clean, I just keep banging main beam and fogs on when no-ones around.

Id clean the lenses with some vinegar and newspaper or windolene, summit like that.

just make sure you wipe them clean after with a damp rag and some clean fresh water.

I've just cleaned mine (and done the h3 bulb conversion) following the help and links in this thread...

Tried to get the lens case open to do the job properly but lost my bottle a bit so went for the coat hanger approach. Worked ok in the end but you have to be patient.

Stuck a couple of 30% brighter bulbs from Halfords in there and the difference in spectacular. I imagine with more expensive bulbs it would be even better.

Hi ZX-ice

I run Osram +30% H3 bulbs in the dipped beam and they are excellent.

Good value too at only £12.27 from demon tweeks - way cheaper than PIAAs.

I actually had the PIAAs and only tried the Osrams coz they were cheap and got a good write-up in Auto Express. They were every bit as good as the PIAAs (which are around £38 a pair), so I haven't put the PIAAs back yet......

.....Wanna but them??:D

Richard;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
