hey guys! how y'all doin?

for quite a wile now iv seriously been thinkin n makin plans to buy a 300zx for next year (yeh i no thrs ages left but i gota start saving sometime!) so i thot i mite as well get some help from those with experience (even tho itl probly be jus a tiny bit biased). y next year? cos il b 21 and il have 1 yrs no claims bonus........hopefully.

i hadnt even heard of th car a year a go but since iv seen it n read bout it am hooked, i jus realy realy want 1! thy jus look.....WOW:D!!!! unfortunatley i havnt had a ride in one yet. iv jus got some questions really n some concerns.

-FUEL: how much for a full tank n how many miles will i get out of it? i dnt expect it to be economical but then i dnt wanna sacrifice a yrs worth of takeaways either.

-INSURANCE: i live in (pretty central) leicester, car wud probly b parked in th street, n its most likely gonna be a standard spec TT i go for. will i need to sell a kidney on th blakmarket to pay for it?

-COST: i no these cars r cheap for wot they are n wot they used to go for brand new but unless tht tree in my garden blossoms £50 notes in the spring am not gonna be lookin towards th top of th range. on average how much would i need to spend to pick up a reliable 90-93 TT, bodywork dsnt have to be mint but i dnt wanna be lumbered with failing parts left right and centre.

-MAINTENANCE: some of th things iv read on this site scare me! am realy being put into two minds now cos everythin seems to go wrong with th z. i understand that ppl only ask for help wen thy in trouble thts y thrs so many negative things iv read but the costs to have them repaired are pretty steep.

sorry for th super long post, please guys help me out here.

at the moment my hearts set on a z, but if things dnt work out my alternative wud b n MR2.

THANX

http://www.imoc.co.uk is the mr2 forum,

all mr2 turbos are imports, they also have a habit of going into safety boost when its cold, I don't think the rev3 does this, don't get a rev1 unless you have a death wish, the stock suspension and diff setup is terrible.

its cheaper to get insured ona UK spec zed than an mr2 turbo.

brilliant little cars though,

Mike, I agree very much so, although my MR2 turbo was a Rev 1 but had sorted suspension and the bigger 15 inch rims on it so handled pretty sweet.

The Rev 3 is definetly the one to go for though if one was to choose one of these. Just try to find one with a T-bar for sensible money.

Justin.

so u cant get an MR2 turbo which isnt an import?? oh well, if thats th case and th insrance is more expensive il jus have to get a zed (wot a pity ;))

wots th difference between Revs 1, 2 &3? wots a T-bar?

Yaseen

All the UK Zs were, that's true. But there were a very few hard-tops in, I think, Japan. And some convertibles.

I know you are leaning towards a Zed at the moment which is a good choice, I can't wait to get mine!

Anyway, to answer your MR2 Rev 1,2 and 3 question. They were basically just improveemenst through the years (revolutions). They started life with 220 ish bhp, slightly twitchy handling and the oblong rear lights and by the time the Rev 3 came along they had almot 250bhp, much improved handling due to the engine being moved a little forward over the rear axle, the rounder rear lights and a bit more colour coding on the bodywork.

I do think though if money really is no object then the Zed would be a little more of an impressive choice, just make sure its a good'n though.

As for insurance being more expensive for imports? Don't believe the hype, I'm 27, 4 years NCB, 1990 ZX TT import, 3000 mile classic policy and I have been quoted under £200 flly comp! Beat that UK guys! (and yes I have checked it over 3 times!LOL):D

I have also heard from a couple of ppl that there is gonna be a new law bought in very soon to stop owners of imported cars paying more than those owning official UK cars. Not although I have noticed any real difference in premiums anyway but does anyone know anything further about this?

Cheers,

Justin:)

got my insurance from norwich union direct my car is 89 n/a import

cost 340 tpft full no claims age 42.

basically if you can afford it at 21 then do it but its gonna be a hefty bill for a second car

but like everyone says you,ll love driving it

:D

thanx justin, wot years were th revs 1, 2 & 3 manufactured respectively?

n wher on earh did u get that quote? which company?

lol am stuck in two minds again now! i guess am jus gonna hav to do alot of ringing round insurance compnaies to get quotes on both cars, uk and import.

i would prefer a zed to be honest but if th MR2 turns out to be a betta option financially then i wont b too fussed. (only if its much betta tho)

cos zeds pretty rare cars and so many owners have had them modded is it very difficult to find a standard one??

nice one justin on that insurance quote who is the company

The best place to read up about MR2 turbos is here:

http://www.mr2dc.com/

If you click on the weblinks you will find owners personal websites. They have all the information you could possibly need about MR2's.

I seem to remember your budget being about £5000 so I would suggest probably looking at a good Rev 1 or 2 tbar. You will have a job to find a decent Rev 3 for that sort of money unless you are willing to buy one without a tbar. Plus rev3 tbar are very rare.

I know all this will be a hard decision for you, both Zed and MR2 tubs arte fine cars, having said that, anything in the performance Japanese line is!

As for the insurance, the company is called Houghtons. They are on the web. http://www.houghtoninsurance.co.uk

Hope this helps.
