Spent much of the afternoon replacing the alternator, power steering and compressor belts, thermostat, stubby rubber hoses and the metal pipes that attach them to the heads.

Is it just me, but removing the power steering belt was THE most difficult part of the whole job - took f-in ages to get enough slack to get the belt off.

Also I manged to snap a pukka Facom allen key getting off one of the bolts that holds the casting with the two temp sensors - that fella was on TIGHT !!!!

Anyway, so far all seems OK, no leaks but I think I need to tighten up the alternator belt a little - horrid squealing noises. And another small mystery is that the car is now running approx 10 degC hotter than before - presume it must be an airlock somewhere, but that'll be a job for tomorrow.

Well done mate;) Yes I would say you have an airlock.

Nice one Andy! Little tip for the PS belt just for next time ;) Don't slacken it all the way, simply "roll" the belt off the pulley as you turn the crank by hand (with a ratchet and 27mm socket) - refitting, just do the opposite. Just get the belt as slack as you can easily then its a doddle ;)

And yeah, sounds like an airleak - either that or your old thermostat was opening too much ;)

CheerZ,

Andy
