Also, will this free up much noticable power? Its a £1300 HKS System, sounds a bit q

Zeds aren't even listed in the CAT test manual for the MOT so just get basic emmisions test - your car should be fine ;) In terms of removing CATs, there is a lot of debate but I'm pretty sure its illegal to remove them - Paul C will be able to tell you more.....

Yep, I just spoke to the DVLA MOT HElpline and they told me the 300ZX TT is not on their list so I can get them removed

Now Im hoping this will give me more power :D

It will - Loads! And it sounds so much better too! Just watch out for the smoke!...;)

Smoke ??!!??

Oh no, dont say that

I had a Supra that smoked terribly

does anyone know how many BHPs the cats rob you of?

Well, it all depends on the condition of your turbos. Mine were a worn so with the reduction in back pressure from the removal of the cats, the seals started spewing out oil and the smoke came out think and fast at idle - so bad that I couldn't even see cars behind me in the traffic! She's currently at the garage awaiting an overhaul after the New year

She didn't smoke at all before the cats were removed, so you wont know until then anyway - so keep your fingers crossed!

As for the BHP - don't know really. The local tuning shop thinks between 10 and 20, but don't hold me to that. However, the turbos spool up much quicker and the overall effect is very positive. Even with another £2000 bill to fix the turbos, I still wouldn't put them back on! It's definately worth it!

The smoke problem can be caused by the PCV valves. These are a maintanance item anyway so should be replaced at regular intervals. Its maybe worth replacing them at the same time as you remove the cats just to be certain (the full kit, 4 hoses 2 valves. Don't bother with the back hose). Apart from that, there will be a slight power increase but it will feel much greater due to the turbos spooling quicker - if the turbos spool quicker, you get more torque....
