Whilst stuffing my face at Pizzahut this evening I was speaking to a mate about NOS.

I was mentioning that it is all very well but try and gte anyone to touch you if you declare you have Nitrous fitted.

He went on to tell me how he had heard you can get away with it without incurring any extra cost on your premium.

Apparently you declare it but tell them you only use it for track use. This way the insurance company will not load your premium as thye are not lible to pay out on track related damage anyway.

Obviously if you had a smash you would wanna unplug the system to cover your arse if an inspector did have a look at it.

I think this seems a bit to good to be true myself but what do you guys think?

I think you would need to be very "special"* to even think about telling your insurer that you have NOS fitted

Lets hope you are in a fit enough state to switch off the NOS if you have a prang!

But to me a modification which you use for track day you take out when you are driving on the road.

Larger brakes increase some policys, but you cant say, "Well they are for track days" can you ? ;)

load of old *****x i would say, if you was an insurer & someone told you that would you believe that it would never be used on the road

"yes mr insurer, iv fitted dirty great turbos, bigger injectors, chiped it but only use 1/4 throttle on the road - honest guv" :D

You would have thought larger brakes would make the car safer.... Insurance companys eh!

It remains the fact that if you dont tell them about something then the insurance cover is void and they can walk away when you need them. They always take your money tho.

Something like NOS is hardly going to get them quoting you happy unless they inhale it first.

If that is the case there is no point in paying the premium except to tax the car. Not sure if there is a grey area or whether its simple black or white.

Perhaps more importantly, if you have undeclared mods then the poor sod who you crippled, and his family, have screwed up lives which they then have to spend trying to get some compensation out of you personally.

And before someone says they're a great driver and won't have an 'own fault' accident, I'm also including the payout which is because you hit some diesel or had a tyre blowout etc.

People may hate insurance companies and the effect it has on our pockets. But there are times when insurance makes the difference between a life being bearable and unbearable.

Please don't try and get away with not declaring mods.

Personally i found when my Zed was running it went Bl***y quick enough without using nos and as ive had it at 277 kph thats quite fast enough for most of us nutters also i had trouble getting the power down without chucking gas down its throat

Ah but some people are more interested in 0-100 and back again rather than ripping down the autobahn at 186mph... me for one. Nothing more boring than a motorway in the Z. However, I can't personally see the point in going much past 400 horsies if you're going to use the thing on UK roads. I know some people do it for the satisfaction of a job well done rather than to use the power every time they go out the car though...

Hairsy, I got told I was a moaner when I said something similar in another thread. I totally agree.

Whilst it may be true that some insurers might accept your claim that the NOS is for track days only when calculating your premium, I bet they use it to wriggle out of paying if you ever hit anything.

I think if you have NOS declare it properly and pay up. You don't want to have your ar5e sued off (shagged of, if you end up in prison) should you be uninsured following an accident.

Richard;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
