I was considering purchase of the Shift at Will system, but it appears from the web site ( http://www.ess-racing.com/ )that it is no longer available. Does anyone know of any other companies offering a similar service?

There are loads of places which can do a simalar system. Its called an "auto to manual conversion"

Not only will you be able to change gear when you want, you will also get an extra gear too ;)

But Kia obviously wants his car to still be fast ;)

 

I think Timmy Turbo has SAW? Or was it TT Tim?

I think it has just been prooven that the Auto is heavier, loses more power through transmission, doesnt have as close gear ratio, has smaller turbos.

 

I dont know 1 person who has done a auto-manual conversion and said it was slower. Quite the oposite as I recall.

TonyC had a manual engine in his auto, which was slower than after he'd changed it for an auto engine :p

 

Manuals only feel quicker because it's not as smooth thru the gears - you get a bang in the back every time you change gear, whereas auto acceleration is smooth through the gears.

Can I just point out that you are talking about 2nd had engines here. Can you gaurentee the 2 engines where in top condition? That both engines where running perfectly at the time?

 

You cant compare 2 engines when you dont know what they have been through.

Stock for Stock the Auto is faster to a ton than the manual.

 

End of.

Stock for stock.

 

Auto is heavier,

Auto is less powerful at the flywheel,

Auto has lower lifting cams,

Auto has more transmission loss,

Auto has smaller turbos.

Sorry Stuart, I am not normally agumentative. I have just given up smoking......

Its a gear ratio thing ;) 0-100 is what its all about! :D

Thats why the auto is as good as it is - The smaller turbos compensate for the gearings and the different cam profiles all contribute to gaining performance back from losses etc. Nissan didnt just put smaller turbos on because it was an auto - they did it for a good reason - to lessen spool up times. and give more response.

Yeah, it seems ESS have stoped producing it. Probably got some tw*t sue them when their gerbox blew up or something.... :rolleyes:
