Ok, I've got me cooling problem sorted (it was one of those short little hoses that feed into the turbo - the mechanic managed to do it without dropping the transmission!:) )

Now I've got another problem. Driving to work this morning, I noticed the brakes were spongey. Quite a bit of travel before they started to bite, but if I pump them again they bite just fine. The pads are only a couple of months old (cheers Berks!) and there is plenty of fluid in the system (just below the Hi mark) No noticeable drips or puddles of fluid anywhere, and none around the calipers either.

I assume I've got air in the system, but is there a common cause? I've done a search and seen problems with Master cylinders, but they seem to lead to pedals that go all the way to the floor. My ones seem just to need an extra pump:confused:

Not sure on exactly how the brake system works but i think all you are doing with that extra pump is drawing fluid down from the resevoir. Basically i think you probably have air in the system, could be from a nackered master cylinder, or just a leak anywhere else in the system.

Have a look under the master cylinder on the actual drum of the booster and see if it looks like any fluid has dribbled down. If it has the paint on the boost will probably be dodgy too, u know how nasty brake fluid is!

Hi

As Robtor said could be air in system.

Changing pads will not cure air in system if u had this problem before with your old pads.

Old brake fluid I think loses its property. New brake fluid after a two or three years needs changing too.

I think first, apart from leaks would be to bleed the system,

could be wrong though! but thats what I would do.

Arthur, I aint no mechanic.
