Just got this from a friend!

The following was sent to me from a Justice of the Peace friend of mine based in Stafford and can be taken as genuine.

Subject: SPEED CAMARAS

Sadly, this is not a joke! It is quite true !!

The new electronic signs on the M6 were switched on this Tuesday. The bad news is that they are rigged with the SPECS speed cameras. This probably applies to all the new signs being installed on the M62, M60 and M56.

SPECS is a computer-camera based system.

As you go past the sign a digital camera reads your number plate. When you go past the next sign your number plate is read again. The computer 'knows' how far apart the signs are so it can work out your average speed between the two, or three or four.

The system is fully automatic and will issue a ticket without any form of human intervention. It does this for every single vehicle that passes. You will not know you have been caught as the cameras don't flash. They work 24/7, 365 days a year, and theoretically, there's absolutely no limit on the number of tickets that the system can issue.

The whole section of the M6 between Knutsford and Preston is wired, both ways. The system is set to trigger a ticket at 78MPH. (Don't take this as a guarantee). Radar detectors will be of no use as SPECS is entirely passive, there is no laser beam to detect.

Be warned and spread the news!

The sign's thing is complete bolox, it sounds like a recycled version of the story about the sign's on the M4 near Reading.

However.......

There are SPECS systems between Junctions 17 (sandbatch) and 19 (knutsford?) though they are on the standard SPECS pole things and not on the new electronic signs.

There are also quite a few other SPECS systems on the Motorways around that area though, you'd need a GPS detector to be sure.

It's also largely irrelevant as for the majority of the time that section of road is so damn busy, that speeding is near impossible!

This email must apply to every Tuesday for the past 6 months, its been doing the rounds for ages.

Plus those cameras have been round there for ages - so long that the orange backing has started to fade...

SPECS Email Hoax

There are several hoax emails regarding speed cameras circulating at the moment. It has been implied that a SPECS system has been installed on the M4, the M6 between Preston and Knutsford, the M62, the M60 and M56. Speed Check Services would like to assure all

interested parties that there are currently no SPECS systems in operation on any of these sites.

I can confirm that as of today, there are two major roadworks areas with a SPECS safety camera system deployed on motorways. These are:

M6 - Jct 18 - J19

Started June 2003 – Expected to be in place until March 2004

M6 Thelwell Viaduct Jct 19 - 20

Started August 2002 – Duration

The systems are installed at roadworks on motorways to encourage drivers to adhere to the reduced speed limit, with the sole purpose of improving site safety for road-workers and motorists. The SPECS system uses ANPR technology and works in pairs to calculate the average speed of motorists traveling between two points. These highly visible safety cameras encourage compliance with the temporary speed limit throughout the length of the

traffic management area.

The details of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit are recorded digitally and are processed and checked by The Police to confirm their validity. SPECS cameras are always deployed overtly in conjunction with focused press activity in order to generate public awareness. New installations of SPECS cameras are announced on our website in the news and events section, so please continue to visit for future updates. It is the objective of Speed Check Services to operate with honesty and integrity and as a result, we are always happy to answer any questions relating to our products or services.

WTF?? Contradiction or what!

Read it you Muppet, I said there is a system, but it's not on the road signs, the SPECS system has been operating for at least 6 months.

i.e. the E-Mail is recycled bolox from the M4 one.

Shut it Hermie LOL :slap:, not digging at you lot, just the fool who originally wrote the scam warning contradicting themself blatantly ;)

Ahhh......

your still a Muppet though :D

i hope it is a scam. i've just made it back from london to manchester (M1, M6) in record time to find the same email waiting for me back at the office!!!

fingers crossed

ste

 Thirlwell and the other set of roadworks further south DO have speed cameras operating!

I think you just passed the other set, didn't you? But then again you probably followed the traffic through them, so you're probably alright...

Of course driving at 70mph six feet from the car in front is MUCH safer than driving at 90mph with 1/4 mile of empty road in front, we ALL know that, ho yes...
