OK, a quick update I had my Z for 1 hour when it lost the speedo, lite up the Hicas light and then leg cocked it's coolant all over the road/driveway.

Having said that - in that one hour I was smitten, totally, and even irrevocably whatever that means.

Now I've got a really easy trading standards case against the dealer/garage, it's not fit for purpose and having spoken to them I get the feeling they would grudginlgy take it back - they would much rather fix it though (all at their expense).

Now Mr Local Nissan had a sharp intake of breath when I told them what had happened - "coolant dump at speed" = six hour plus job, new water pump, gaskets etc...

Right the question:

I may have an out - do I dump the lump and run, and wait for another black, auto, leather, TT to come up for sale or do I get the dealer to fix it - and there is still a K or two in the "ohh bugger" fund to build in the reliabilty I want.

It's bloody annoying to have it sitting in the dirveway unsuable. Having said that judging from some of the threads on here - I'd better get used to it. :p

Personal opinion here;

If you buy a dog it will always be a dog.........unless you spend thousands and thousands on it....

Buy a nice well kept Z, with history etc.......and you get exactly that......

And may only have the odd hiccup and you can continue the nice well keptness of it!

So to sum up;

Dog = Dog

Nice well kept = nice well kept

Matty.

unfortuanatly, as nice as matty's theory is, its not always the case!

we often get cars through the workshop that are lovingly serviced on time with any work done immediatly that is always back in the workshop for more & more work, then you get another that gets used & abused & never gets anything more than a brake pad bill every now & again!!

but if it is a real dog then you really are throwing good money after bad.

how is the rest of the car, did it have a professional inspection??

it could be the only problem this car ever has, or it could be the 1st of many, 1/2 the time its the luck of the draw :(

id say get an inspection done (if not already) & if its a nice car & you like it - get the work done. - if you do then make sure the repairers give it a nice long road test to make sure theres no bigger problems caused by the coolant loss

if the report shows other problems then backing it may be a good idea

why dont you buy one off somebody on here

most problems have already been sorted

and you no your buying a well looked after motor

Says the man with a motto of "Drive it like you stole it" ! :D LOL

Hi Barry

Initially I would go along with Matty's theory, but Paul has a valid point.

Have someone who knows their stuff inspect the car to ascertain exactly what you are letting yourself in for, should you keep it.

If you do decide to keep it have the work done by a mechanic who:

a) knows about Zeds

b) is of YOUR OWN CHIOCE, not the dealers.

The dealer would most likely get any old grease monkey to bodge it up just to get rid of you and who knows what he could f**k up in the process.

Good luck

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Now there's a thought - hit the dealer for a reduction and get Zed world (or the nearest thing in Milton Keynes) to fettle it....:cool:

Well personnaly i'd get it repaired and then a full checkover of the car. If you are happy then keep it. Who's to say you won't end up like 300zx_newbie however and have problem after problem, but we all take that risk.

Personally it took me 6months to find my car, I made a few compromises but mecahnically she is sound and after 2 years all that really has gone wrong is the master brake cylinder failing. Your compromise may be to take this car back and sit it out and wait for the perfect car. Maybe my car will be up for sale in 6 months :) but its anti-black :)
