Do the UK Spec Zed's need an additional gearbox cooler?

And if so is the Z centre one, used fo J Spec etc... good enough?

Info and opinions please.....

I think UK car autos have an adequate one anyway IIRC, its the j-specs which have it built into the radiator and benefit from a separate oil cooler.

I'm sure it wouldnt hurt tho ;)

Hi spezer300zx,,,,Auto,,UK cars have 2x coolers in the either side of the rad, for the transmission ,,,and a large front mounted engine oil cooler under the air box (under nosepanel) ffor fast long road use , so the UK Z32 can cope with the heat from driving this way ,,,also the diff i believe has a small cooler on it to.

,,,But the Jap spec Z32 was not spec for long fast driving at speed ,,so it has one small length of pipe in the rad for trasmission oil cooling,,,which is crap ,,,so fitting the larger cooler up front is the first modifcation to do on an Auto,,otherwise the G/box goes"""" bang"""you loose gears etc:cry:

And also it has no cooler for the diff.... ,,,so if you have a UK spec car and every thing is good with no leaks etc ,,,you can sit back and smile:D

,,,cheers,,,:slap:

Just to clarify this one, both the UK and Jap spec auto do use the radiator header (s) to cool the fluid the only difference is the UK spec uses both headers the Jap spec one, no other cooling is fitted to the UK car, the larger cooler up front is the engine oil cooler.

The answer to the original question is yes the UK auto would benefit from a larger cooler, in fact in my experience the comparison of Jap v UK spec cars which have failures in the gearbox is very similar.

Well my UK car also has a small transmission oil cooler mounted in front of the engine oil cooler and its not an add on. It also has the tubes going into the water radiator headers. Mine is a series 2 - maybe different?

The diff oil cooler is mounted high in the offside inboard of the rear wheel arch and uses an electric oil pump.

Euro spec cars had 17% bigger water radiator cooling fin surface and the extra oil trans and diff cooler to enable continuous high speed autobahn running.
