When the Auto box changes gear how long should it take to select it's gear and continue to acelerate.

 

My Auto box seems hesitate some what and is quite noticable.

Hmmm I can hardly feel mine actually changing, just the revs dropping to the next gear and the change in acceleration. There shouldn't be a noticeable delay I dont think :S

I have recently changed the gearbox oil as suggested but to no avail. It's quite a violent change in the lower gears as well and TBH I am very dissapointed with the acceleration in the higher gears.

 

 

She seems to go like a rocket from standstill but on the M'Ways she just doesn't seem to have a great deal of power.

O/D off on the motorway........I fookin love it.

 

The tt's are strongest I would say 50 upwards, right up and past illegal speeds.

Mines doing the same ... absolutely mad off the line, violent change up from 2nd to 3rd (with significant delay) and then slow to accellerate in top gears. Have been informed that it could be (a) problem with the torque converter, or (b) slipping clutch. Either way it's not good. Let me know what you find out from the diag. I've done a ConZult diag but nothing significant shows up.

Yeah, Jock ran a conzult on mine and the only thing it showed up was a dodgey temp sensor.

 

I will post the results of the diag and hopefully between us we can get out cars sorted.

Better do do a dedicated auto diagnostic as the details the ConZult show are solenoid pressures, selector position etc and unless the correct figures are known it can be difficult to see a problem.

 

Some time ago I posted a similar fault I saw in the workshop, harsh and dealayed changes with the odd slipping at higher speed, built in diagnostic showed a solenoid drop resister fault, this is situated in the n/s inner wing at the back and after swapping for a good known one ( 14 ohm resistance) the box was back to good changes and no hesitation.

Just run the auto box diag and it has passed (one long flash, followed by ten fast flashes).

Try smelling the fluid, and why do people think changing the fluid will fix their auto robs????

 

if your box is on the way out changing the fluid just costs you some money for nothing.

OK - check the TPS for proper adjustment and smooth movement through its range with a voltmeter. When adjusted properly it should read between x and y volts. Adjust the switch based on the throttle position - you will notice that at rest it will read a set value and then as you move the throttle it will suddenly jump up - try and get the gap between the low and high reading as small as possible - it uses this as the reading of the car being at idle to acceleration. Too big a gap causes the auto box to change in odd ways.

 

I think this is more important to get right for auto's as the sensor feeds the transmission - I found that simply 'getting it in the right range' wasnt enough - it could cause the box to change down before you took your foot off the pedal - say 1 cm before idle position so be as accurate as you can with the adjustment and base it on the change in value before you check the voltage it ends up at - if its then in the right range the sensor is probably OK to use unless its not smooth in the voltage change that is.

Second - there are two throttle cables under your bonnet - You need to adjust one of them to make sure it has approx 2mm of free play - this can also affect the shift pattern of the box and make it hesitant and also make it violent.

It was just suggested by someone as when they done this it made the box a little smoother.

Thanks for the info mate.

Transmission fluid is worth changing,i used to have a 928 4.7 litre and on changing the fluid in the transmission the gears changed noticablbly quicker,it's definately worth doing.
