After worrying all day what it was going to fail on (!!!) i've finally had the news...

... fail on headlights! They said there was no discernable pattern to the main beam.

So, am I going to have to do 'the upgrade' or will just cleaning them do the trick?? Also, having read a few other posts and not being clear: On full beam, should the additional round lamps stay on?? (It's a '90 import).

Any quick fixes would be great, as the mot's expired at the moment, and I want to be driving it!

Hi Rich

Mine went through the MOT on Saturday and had the exact same problem with the drivers side headlight.

I promised the guy I would fix it in the afternoon so he passed it for me.

I know that's not much help as I never got round to fixing it Saturday so would be interested to hear any body elses view on this to.

On older cars sometime putting a high power bulb in will just make the drifference, even if it blows after a whil it might be worth it. ot one of the extra light bulbs...

Are they dirty inside on the lens?

after reading related threads, I think dirt is the problem, gonna try cleaning them without taking lights out...

or the bulb is not in properly and not in the focus position.

Or duff bulbs about to blow with metal atoms all over the inside of the glass silvered like!

Defo the bulb not inserted correctly.

so the plan of action is...

clean lenses and reflectors, replace high beam bulb (low beam fine!) and check beam alignment.

thanks for advice, lets hopre some plonker's put bulbs in wrong

actually, come to think of it, one of the low beam bulbs was a butchered wrong type when i came to change it... might be on to something!
