i have recently carried out some mods , de catted exhaust

blitz sonic induction kit , re mapped ecu , i have tried the boost at 15 psi using unleaded and optimax but it is running uneven

however if i adjust the boost to 12psi it runs fine no problems

and performs very well , i would like to run at the higher boost

if possible as enough speed is never enough speed

Might be time for a mini-NW meet, I'm back on the road too! Been ages since I've been on that private test track between Asda and Heysham. :D

If it goes bananas over a certain boost then it must be something to do with the amount of air/fuel that's getting in there - something not coping over a certain point...

So how about these for ideas...?

Airflow is fouled somewhere (filters? Leak? Tubs not up to the job?)

Boost leak (will hold 12psi but not 15)

Air is too hot (I/Cs not up to it)

Mix is wrong (fuel map, injectors, dodgy fuel pump)

Measurement wrong (AFM, TPS)

Can you cross any of these off the list straight away?

I had a play with feedback speeds on my boost controller, tightened things up considerably.

just had the car set up at Turbo boost in lancaster they seem to think the exhaust is restrictive ..its a powerflow straight through system de catted so i cant see that , the car runs fine when i wellie it on the test track !!!

its just been set up with the exhaust and induction kit taken into account so i dont think its air fuel mix , could be turbos

the cars 12 year old so they may be on the way out

rear oil seal problems with decatted exhaust springs to mind !!

anyway i have a few grand to throw at it over the winter months so maybe some of smithys spool up roller bearing tubs

are on the cards ( nice ice install by the way i checked out your web site )

check the web site of turboboost and under ECU upgrade petrol turbo and 300zx you will see my car not as quick as yours and i need to get those dreadfull graphics off the sides but shes not a bad old girl.

got ta dash works over its beer o clock

When I had similar mods on my car and had similar problems of lack of smoothness, especially on the higher boost.

Is your idle running higher than before ie around 1000 or more?

Have you reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for an hour?

I did clean the throttle bodies and let the car settle down over a few hundred miles and now it's smooth.

no doubt when i get back from Kazakhstan the battery will be flat as a pancake anyway so i will give it a shot and disconnect it for an hour or so , i cleaned the throttle bodies last month before the induction kit was installed .......all seems fine at 12 psi but it will not run smoothly on higher boost at all .......tickover hunts and there is very un even response from the throttle and even under normal driving the car seems very lumpy

Hey up Kirbz,

i have spoken to Andy in turboboost and he has assured me the fueling is ok and has been mapped properly , taking into account the new induction kit and free flow exhaust ,

i am thinking of fitting upgraded intercoolers GReddy , do you anything about them , they will set me back about 800 squidlys

but may help if its a fuel temp prob thats causing the lumpy running at higher boost,

steve

Hi Steve

300's are not the easiest to set up, how much experience to turbo boost have setting up performance cars?? i'm not saying that they are crap or anything but if your tuning the car the set up is so important. I know they do alot of agricultural stuff but i dont know if i would use them to do mine. Its a personnel thing, i would rather pay more and go somewhere with a proven track record of mapping.

Like i say its purly my oppinion.

Kirbz, i understand what you say , but they have done a good job

of it if i leave the boost alone at 12 psi ........too be honest i want to re sort the internals with new forged pistons rods and crank

up the injection system ( always a limiting factor on power ) and then the higher boost should not be a problem, I am sure its a temperature of fuel/air mix problem / plugs so i will resolve the plugs problem , open to sugestions on plug types on this one !!

at the moment as it left the garage the car was much much quicker with loads of tourque way down the rev range right up to the redline.......... its just me i want more speed

they are keen to impress at Turbo boost and i would recomend them if anyone else in the area needs a re map ......inductor kit

fitted ( top of the line blitzsonic )and re mapped for a tad under 700 quid. you are right they have worked on a lot of turbo diesels and well known for their quality of work on remapping those

i have no complaints about them i just want more boost !

I have the HKS iridium ones but they are pricey, they are made by denso and are half the price, i have some very good ones that i took out and are NGK racing ones so if you want to clean them up you can try them if you want to see if it improves it.

I think there's a guy on here who does plugs so give them a shout

Hi zevans

the ride over might be a bit dodgy youre right , i used to work offshore morecambe bay on the gas rigs and i know it can get a little rough out there in the irish sea, still not a bad idea for a spring meet though
