Ive just been readin a back issue of jap performance (zx buyers guide)and they said when comparing the uk & jap spec that the jap spec has a 1.5 inch resrictor in the exhaust.If this is true were about is it?Looked on the search but cudnt find anything????

First I heard of it.

It's at the start of the middle section, just behind the cats.

The UK cars have pre cats - the Jap ones dont but have the restrictor instead. As is my understanding.

That must be for the later Zs then as only 1992 or 1993 onwards have precats.

Mines a j-spec and that had cats (not anymore though);)

pre cats are different to the normal full ones - they are extra ones - dont ask me how or why as I dont know - just what I heard them called.

Have you had it spayed then Bagins? Best really, dont want all those nasty tom Zeds digging up your garden :)

My appologies Bilky read your original post wrong thought you were talking about normal cats , as regards precats I'm pretty sure your right

Think pre cats had to do with reducing emmissions during the warm up phase.

Is there anyway that you can rip it out untill my piggy bank is full enough to get a exhaust sorted,can you get decat pipes for the zx as ive only seen cat back systems???

If you want to remove the restrictor, just get a die grinder or a dremmel and grind it out. Only takes about 1/2 hour once you've got the exhaust off.

Yeah it's pretty obvious.

Not too sure what difference it makes because I did it when I decatted mine.
