Even my missus has fitted it on her Z

** Picture removed as some people just have no tact  **

phwoarrrrr! nice....paint!

No. All it does it trick the dial into showing a different speed. It does not interfear with the speed signal to the ECU or HICAS

Stuart. When your wife put the converter on, why did she take all of that interior out? You dont have to take the steering/ignition cover off, or the big tweek panel underneath it.

there has def been reports of "some" converters upsetting the Hicas. But I really dont know more than that. Something to do with the ECU thinking its going faster/slower than it really is.

Whatever..

The speed limiter is a function of the ECU - in a standard Jap EPROM it's set lower than UK. If the convertor was simply tricking the dial into reading a modified speed, the speed limiter would be in exactly the same place. So it must be giving the ECU (and HICAS module, and dial) the wrong information. HICAS (theoretically) won't come in at 30mph (or whatever it is) like it should.

But Cerina doesn't have HICAS anyway, does she?

So there is a possibility that it would effect other systems then,Is there also a type of chip which sorts it to ? ive got a chip in my 200sx which sorts out the fuel cut and other things ,how much would you be lookin at for a zx?:)

I fitted UK clocks, this does not remove the limiter, but seems to move it to 125mph, I dont know why. This then means you hae to have another chip fitted, but this can then allow more boost etc etc.

I did mine this way becasue of the question over the Hicas being upset. when I SVA'd it the speedo was one mph fast. In other words very accurate.

I haven't got a clue mate, she'd only had the car for about 3 weeks, I came home nad the first thing I did was take this picture. I guess she just decided to start unscrewing bolts etc, but hey, she did the job, how many other women do you know that take their dash apart and wire up a KM to MPH convertor ?

verry nice mate

you got any better photos

;) ;) ;)

Wots the average cost of gettin uk clocks ,how does the chip derestrict the zx and wots the average chip cost???

The converter chips do affect the HICAS and steering. The steering feel is awful with a converter, far too light.

The chip just removes the limit in the ECU that tells it to stop accelerating at X mph.

Sounds better wot cost am i lookin at,will the chip cause the car to run lean, advance timin cause det...etc if the car is in standard trim??

Cheers

As you can see, there is a difference of opinion. I go with the converter messing the Hicas, but have no personal exp.

As I said, I went for UK clocks, about £120.00. People say they should be cheaper, but try finding them cheaper when you need them.

Chip cost I am not sure of, but get a good one. To get the best out of the chip you need an induction kit, Apexi prob the best, and a less restrictive exhaust. Then when set up nicely about 350+ BHP is available.

Oops sorry I didn't read the previous posts properly, forget that last post :D.

Do it properly and get an aftermarket chip socketed, that'll remove the limiter without worrying about the HICAS shenanigans...

hmm, the one I had from John Dixon certainly does screw with the steering, and I could swear it screws with the autobox also, it sometimes seems like it doesnt know which gear it should be in, and as he said the steering is MUCH lighter with it, at high speeds the front feels so light its a bit frightening tbh.

Just like to point out that it was a speedo converter that I gave Clarkey, not an ECU chip ...

yep, and he did an excellent jopb of fitting it too, he works those electrics like hes a pro or something ;);)

Sorry Stuart but couln't control myself.

"Your wife looks like she certainly knows how to screw!!!

Apologies for my outburst!!!

Geoff.

your a bad bad man:slap:

I had a speed converter fitted when i bought the car and it failed, it didnt mess with HICAS (NA) but did mess with the power steering. Bought second hand uk clocks and had a chip fitted, reads miles, no speed limiter, higher rev limit . NICE :)
