Theres f***ing bits everywhere and just when you think youve taken all the hoses off you find twenty more

But the engine is ready to be lifted first thing tomorrow.

this is intresting as i am thinking of getting se to do my engine but reading between the lines it seems that no one has 500 bhp thats proven.if they do i would love to see what it is like. went out in the red one if its the same one that 51x says, was not that impressed nice kick at 4000rpm when the cams come in, came up at 470bhp on the rollers ??????. I thought the problem with the 300zx engine was the size of the throttle bodies. you can only get so much air through a restriction regardless of whats either side. any way at a guess 51x lives close to me so when your zed is done please give me a shout (hadleigh) as what you have had done is simular to work im thinking about.

Gees i'm impressed with this, 6 pages on and no falling out :D

Mac, yep a pair of the Correct configured T28's will make 600bhp on a Zed, almost maxing out and a little laggy, but yes !

The Pulsar range of Hybrid T28's is quite vast and many will far exceed 300bhp.

cheers

Just rembered i had this from a Turbo builder/Designer of hybrids whose turbo's are on many Zeds here, he's talking about SE tubs, heres a short paragraph.

smithy

" they have an actual designation from Garrett as a TB2808 which are rated for 300 BHP but they will get a good 320-330 BHP with a bit of good tuning on the engine this is on a 4 cylinder - 2 litre engine as well! So when I went to school that would equate to 600-660 BHP. This spec fitted to the V6 engine would cause lag when you consider that the split on this engine would be a 3 cylinder 1.5 litre….but all these mean nothing if you were to fit them to a rubbish engine, the results would change on a good engine and these figures are always down to the engine and state of tune! "

LOL what have I missed:D

Right Smithy first, NO THEY WILL NOT MAKE OVER 600BHP,show me a Z that has?:slap:

Both tell me NO;)

We're all entitled to our beliefs Mac, yours is your and mines mine, and until someone comes on here who has tuned their engine AND fitted Hybrid T28's designed to flow enough puff to do the job and they can't get 600bhp, THEN along with many others i'll concede ;)

If 600 bhp is your goal, good luck to yer mate and fair play for having the balls to spend all the cash to do it as well.

Just hope no one comes along side yer in a manual well tuned Hybrid turb'd motor and leaves yer at the lights, different goals different people, some want the power figure with ultimite top end and some want the shear acceleration and about 25mph top end less !

cheers

Thats right Smithy agree 100% well apart from the manual bit:D

Have I got balls YOU BET;)

The cash I am spending is serious TBH,that's why I now know I am 100% INSANE! FACT:eek:

What is you intercooler then? Make/model/rough price please...

It's a nice bit of kit and got to be better than the pants 2 either side of the main rad!!!

Hi Ben

Its a HKS FMIC with the HKS Hard pipe kit, they did cost about £2500 when they first came out but i think you can get them for about £1500 now.

Ask Chris@getgreddy i'm sure he could get one at a good price

Cheers

I've got a serious question... sorry 'bout that.

How the dickens does any cold air get to the radiator with that beastie in front of it?

  • Author

I dont know but it does!! mmmmm front mount intercooler

Radiators are folded ali.

The air flows through the IC to cool it. The air will come out the other side and flow through the radiator. At least that's the theory anyway ;)

Don't forget that the side vents are now clear!

So you could reposition the Oil cooler to one side, thereby letting more air to the Rad!

You could position a smaller water radiator to the other side therby getting over the cooling problem!

yeah yeah... I can see how the atmospheric air gets there physically, but...

when the atmospheric air has cooled the intercooler (ie cooled the charged air) then it will have been warmed itself. That's the law, son (the second one in this case). So you've heated the charged air by compressing it, used more ambient air to cool it, and then the cool ambient air for the water radiator will come from... where? See what I mean?

The engine won't run any cooler because it's using cool charged air - the whole point of cooling the charge is that the "gap" between the cool charge and the hot exhaust is bigger = more power.

So you now need MORE cooling from the SAME amount of air, and the radiator seems pretty marginal in these things anyway...

So you'll have a nice cool charge and then cylinders over temperature!

I know the old I/C pods are now free but the air through that space probably won't end up over the water radiator without more frigging...

I guess I'm saying I wouldn't put an FMIC in without uprating the water rad too, but then again I bet Mike's already got that covered

Already ordered Zak plus i'm toying with the idea of venting the air from the vents up to either the engine or the rad, i'm not sure plus i'm gonne vent the bonnet as well to let air out.
