 did I open a can of worms here or what?! I actually like the 220 Turbo:dance: but I'd still choose the RX7:D

Actually back in '96 I almost bought a 220 turbo coupe (in pacific blue btw, not nightfire pink!)

What did I buy instead?

RX7...... LMFAO!

This thread has run on a lot longer than I thought it would;)

Anyway i have a theory about why everyone thinks only old giffers drive Rovers (apart from the obvious, of course:D )

Has anyone noticed that when car manufacturers give their cars names instead of numbers, people say they drive a particular model (eg. Micra, Almera etc). But when they use numbers (eg 416, 220, 307, 911 etc) people refer to their car by manufacturer. (ie "I drive a Rover, Peugeot, Porsche" etc.)

Because of this all models from that manufacturer get grouped together, regardless of type. Therefore as the usual Rover 414 is driven by a flat cap wearing coffin dodger, all Rover drivers are assumed to be the same:rolleyes:

This is also true of the Nissan Almera (have you seen anyone under 80 driving one?):p

But the 300ZX is obviously a breed unto itself, coz it has numbers and a name of sorts:dance:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I only read half this topic as I got bored!!!

I swapped my 220coupe turbo which I loved for a 300ZXTT and would never look back.

The rover is a nice car in its own right but the 300zx has it beat in every category for me hands down!!!!

Thats why I changed!!!!

Although reliability wise, the rover wins but then I probably bought a bad 300zx!!! Its a good one though now after £12.5K!!:p

Having had several rover tomcats and mg meastro turbo's mg montego turbo etc and spend all day working on them from new when I worked for the rover dealer ship as well as being on every factory course on these cars. you tend to get a bit of a picture of what these cars are like.

1/..m16/t16 engine is a fairly good engine, apart from the uncurable oil leaks permanently

2/...Then they modified the valve seals and valve seat angles several times to stop them burning out.

3/..then the ecu mulifuntion(mems) switch packs pack in so car won't run

4/..turbo model honda gears boxes struggle with power>> bearing failure

5/..changing wheel bearings regular

6/..can't stop wheel vibrations through steering& brake disc's changed regular

7/..factory alarms packing in and going off when ever they want

8/..these cars don't like parking near curbs, they bottom out on towing hook

9/..wind noise uncurable and leaking water in

10/.. window regulars bend like putty

11/.. t16 turbo which has special piston&conrod together not same as n/a

but still melt away even on std boost

etc

etc apart from them they arn't too bad if you get a goodun and give decent performance if you can hold on to the torque steer

montego turbo was a scream lol

Richard:cry:
