Hi all, Im thinking of selling my Supra Turbo and moving over to the 300ZX. I have never seen inside one though, and need it to be like the supe a 2+2 seating config. Some of the ones Im seeing advertised are only 2 seaters. Does this mean they've had rear seats removed or are they all 2 seaters?

Is there anything I need to look for when buying?

Im after a UK (hopefully), Twin Turbo , targa top, manual,

91(J) model preferably with a bodykit fitted for under £7k.

What is the performance of these like against a Mk4 Supra TT?

Are they easy to mod, Ive had my supe decatted, wastegate shimmed, straight through 4.5" exhaust, k&N Induction kit, Hybrid turbo.

Cheers all

INCOMING!!!!!! TAKE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :slap:

Here's a link to some excellent buying guides http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_20.htm

The majority of 300's are 2+2. I have had 2 mates in the back of mine and it is a squeeze but possible. 2+0 are around, a little more rare. Being more of a GT car, I think it is really comfortable.

A kitted Z for under £7k might be pushing it a bit, but you never know.....keep looking around, especially on here!

The usual mods are induction kit, exhaust, boost upgrade. That will give you a healthy increase.......after that it gets a bit more expensive.

Cheers, just had a read through. Found what I needed to know. Now just got to sell mine and buy a Z.

Anyone interested in a Supra :)

UK manuals are probably the rarest of all. all uk's are targa top, twin turbo 2+2

they are easy to mod to a degree, intake, zorst, boost upgrade, chip etc

but then can get v expensive! still easy, but expensive ;) :D

 Why does every one go for a uk manual ?, whats wrong with the jap imported ones,? there usually low mileage , have loads of mods and around £6-7000 or less and some even have service history ,,give it a go

Why do people go for a UK over a Import?

Well,

Cheaper insurance, You can get classic insurance on a UK, while its a lot harder to do the same with a Japanese Import,

More powerful (Supposidly)

ECU mapped for this countries fuel,

Undersealed,

Unusuall not to have lots of history,

Because of history more chance of seeing if it is modified,

Usually wont have the tits reved off it,

Any HPI checks on the car will show any from it's entire life and not just from when it was in this country,

Dark tinted windows and not orange tinted like Japanese Imports,

Wider rear wheels,

Some parts are cheaper,

Firmer and better suspention,

It shows MPH without having to buy converters, which lets face it often go wrong,

Boost and oil are in PSI, (and not cats per-square ironing boards or what ever imports read)

They are not resticted to 112mph,

Extra cooling with larger radiator and larger fan, and, they have oil and diff coolers, Putting a cooler on when it comes into this country will not reverse the fact the car has been running with out one for 10 years already.

Have proper rear fog lights,

Head light bulb are a very comon are easy to get hold of,

Seat belts are on B pillar and not on the door,

A virtually all UK are leather interior,

Fuse cover is in english so you know what is what,

I am sure there are more reasons some people go for UK over Japanese Import

Stuart

Yep a good list of differences...however

Undersealed - cos they need to be with all the cack they put on the roads here. How many rusty Jap zeds do you see?

Usually wont have the tits reved off it - IMO this is *more* likely with a UK car.

A virtually all UK are leather interior - My jap has leather

The only real decision making differences are insurance and service history.

A few more ;)

UK dont have the gay parking ariel,

UK have proper 3 point seat belts in the back and not lap belts,

UK have head light washers,

UK dont need a radio expander (or what ever it is called) to listen stations on a stock radio,

UK dont have chime sound coming from the dash when you reach 70mph.

;)

Either way a Nissan 300ZX is a Nissan 300ZX. Its all good. Unless its an Import and then its called a "Fairlady" ;) I have never met a person who calles their import a Fairlady. Probably to embarrasses.

That is true.

However a car which has not been treated will rust very very quicky on our roads, unless you get it undersealed when it gets here.

I have noticed that a few people have been asking about rear sills, and they where nearly all Imports, because they have not been undersealed.

So the moral from this story is check your car see if it is undersealed, if not get it done. :D

Can I fit one of these to my UK car? Do Courtesy hold them in stock or should I ask AndyZ? ;)

Stuart,

You keep harping on about underseal!!!

I WILL REPEAT THIS FOR YOU ONLY ONCE MORE!!!!

THE JAP IMPORT UNDERSEAL IS IDENTICAL TO THE UK CARS -FULL STOP!!!

That said, additional protection is a good idea anyway.

Also, all the UK ones I saw when looking to buy were knackered high mileage hacks, with rust!!!

My Jap Import on the other hand is completely rust free, and I'm not fooling myself, I've a four post car lift, and know every inch of the chassis!! There is non.

However....If someone likes welding as a hobby, buy a UK model, eh Stuart??

What is/where is fitted, the gay parking aerial??

I would strongly advise anyone to buy a low mileage import with high auction grade and jap service history. You really will get a car that looks and feels virtually new!!

A few alterations/conversions to do, but done right, and there is no problem.

That said if you can find a low mileage UK spec, I'm sure that will also be good, but where does such a car exist??

The main thing is not to buy a £3000 Autotrader Hack, import or UK or you'll spend more than the same again getting it anywhere near right.

Peace and love to ALL ZEDS I say;) ;) ;) Just don't bugger them up with too many mods!!

Paul N:p

Mines a Jap import....

Had it 5 years and been very reliable....(thats done it now!)

Underseal is present in standard form aplenty - no rust under mine.

Electric folding wing mirrors are cool.

I dont have a parking ariel.....

The foglights, speed chime and light bulbs are easily modded. Although I've left my foglight and speed chime alone. I added the required earth lead to the light housing and can use normal off the shelf bulbs.

The speedo conversion - granted can go wrong - however I have had a stick on face over the existing one calibrated in MPH and I challenge anyone to spot it - a perfect match - Yes it only reads to about 120mph but really- do you need to know your speed after 100? You'll be banned regardless......

The autobox on the Jap is more sophisticated than the euro one.

Jap cars have not been ragged like UK ones. If thats a worry - dont buy a modded car - why mod it if not to drive it harder. Buy it stock and mod it yourself.

Yes narrower wheels at the rear, got plenty of grip and not felt it lacking at all. (see debate on here about wider rear wheels)

You can get leather imports if u want them. No problem.

Who on earth keeps the stock radio? Unless u are selling it on!

BAH!

Ive got UK Z

No leather interior:(

But still good:)

And its a Z:dance:

See, now why are you calling my car?

I didnt call yours?

I did not call imports, I stated (MAC expression coming up) FACTs ;) about the differences between a UK and Japanes Import and why some people go for UK ones.

Yes my car is rusty and is probably the worst one in this country body wise, but I did a deadly sin when buying a car, I bought the first one I saw.

But my car has NEVER been into a garage because of mechanical failure. FACT! (Thanks MAC ;)) I think one is needed. Yep its coming! (My first dancing Banana!) ;)

So it is I who shall :slap: you ;)

Hehehe

Yeah, but your 'FACTs' werent applicable to all imports. Only some.

And quite economical with the truth too.

:slap:

Only kidding around as you know Stuart, :)

I like Zeds period.

I do feel for you, having to deal with all that rust on yours, but your article has done some good, it actually made me decide to thoroughly rustproof mine, I was just assuming because it had lasted 12 years without rusting when I got it that rust wasn't going to be an issue, but after seeing yours I realised I better keep a close eye on it!!

Have you done all your mileage on the original Tubs by the way??

Paul
