So are we talking 25th January for the Pod? Is this ok with everyone who is interested in coming along?

Sounds good to me :)

Its so exciting!!!:D :D :D

I tell you what them guys are really talking complete *****cks over on the gto forum.

One of the guys on there is now saying that even a "lightly" modded gto is more than a match than any big bhp zed

:slap:

Kirbz

That would be me. :D

If you can quote some 1/4 times from your big Z's that impress, I'll stand corrected. So far, I see only a 13.54 best time quoted, which is quick, but not quick enuff.

Andy L

Yeh you can see a 13.54 from a pretty standard zed!!??

   Oh please! I have WASTED a few GTO's they were nothing special in the performance department at all!

Looking at your mods list your ride is pretty sweet, but saying 'I've wasted a few GTO's' is a little vague.

Was it on the strip? Any times? Which strip? What mods was he running? Was it even a turbo? (there are lots of n/a's out there) Was it from a roll or from stop? to how fast/how far?

Like I said, it's 1/4 times that mean anything, not races in halfords car-park.

A 13.5 1/4 from a Z that has chip, filter, zorst and 11psi is hardly stock now is it! I ran 13.4 with stock zorst (with all three cats I might add), filter, 11psi. Go do the math.

My My you are a cheeky little runt car parks indeed LOL

Ok just for you................................

I have WASTED 3 GTO's in total rolling at 70mph+ pulled away with ease(FACT)

Rolling at 100 there was no competition at all he was a black dot by the time I hit 160(FACT)

Off the lights he had me a car length until I hit boost then once again bye bye GTO! (FACT)

Yes they were all turbos very dissopointed on how little guts they have IMHO!

Now dont come on here and get all silly FFS! its a 300 club not a GTO thing!

actually no.

1/4 times are more to do with traction and driver experience.

A rolling start say in 2nd gear on a straight dual carrigeway will always prove who has the fastest car.

No one has anwered my question.

Are the 3000GT's 320 bhp? Or even more according to some sites on the net. Seems a little more than the normal 280 of a Z

A rather long, (but informative) post...

Looking at your mods list, you probably easily out bhp most GTO's on the road at this point in time, so its no surprise you turned them into dots. Try that with a similar GTO and you'll probably be door to door.

The car length you mentioned the GTO had on you from the lights is what I am talking about, and what you need to think about the most - you wont make that up against a similar modded GTO.

A less modded GTO will still have that same car length on you and you'll probably catch him up, but over the 1/4 it would be close, very close.

Its important to note at this point that GTO = JAP IMPORT, 3000GT = UK/EUROPEAN/AMERICAN (left hooker)

The earlier 1991-1993 models were fitted with 9b turbos and make around 280-300 ish, but they cant hold a lot of boost high up - if you raced a 1991-1993 GTO from a roll (and he wasn't running upgraded turbos) you will probably beat him (as you demonstrated.)

Late 1993+ popup models, and the non-popup 1994+ 3000GT's/GTO's come with 13g turbos, and make around 320bhp (approx), and about 315lb/ft at 9psi. The 13g turbos can hold about 17psi to redline, but you'll need supporting fuelling and injector upgrades to manage that safely.

I have a UK spec 1993 model with aforementioned 13g turbos, fitted with only filter and boost controller (at 11psi) and I make about 350bhp, which netted me a 13.4s 1/4. I'm reckoning on mid 12's once I get my fuelling sorted and running 14-15psi.

I wouldn't like to say either way what would happen on a roll from 70 to 150, but I WOULD say I'd leave you looking rather silly from a standing start, which is how the gauntlet has been thrown down at Santa Pod. :D Traction control or not, 4 wheels are better than 2 at launching.

Not sure I agree there. A rolling start would normally be won by whichever car has the greater bhp per ton, or whichever car is geared to perform at those speeds. A fine example is an Impreza WRX 22b which is designed to reach 120mph as quick as possible, and then do nothing The same car with a sequential box would be even 'faster' to 120mph.

I remember reading a post/argument on the Scooby forums about what is classed as 'fastest'. Is this fastest to 1/4, fastest to 100mph, fastest to 60mph, fastest in the twisties, fastest above 100+ ?? Thrust SSC, in terms of guiness book of records, is the 'fastest travelling' car, but I'll happily race it on the 1/4!

But by the same token, I wouldn't even think of considering my car (or a Z) 'faster' than a WRX impreza around the twisties.

GTO's come in 5 and 6 speed flavours, so they have different performance characteristics both off the line and in gear, I've not driven or raced a 6 speed GTO yet, so I cant comment, but its generally accepted the 5 speed is best for mid 11's 1/4s with sub 125mph trap speeds, and the 6 speed once you want to start hitting 10's and a higher (ultimately) top speed.

In January, its over a standing 1/4 mile that will determine which car is the 'fastest'. Maybe later on in the year we can do a top speed event, and maybe even a track day at some point. The weight of two clubs obviously has its advantages when organising things like this, not to mention raising interest with magazines etc.

Ok Andy I will give you one thing Mitsibishi make great turbos, that's why I am fitting the Greddy 18g;) am also having a full engine rebuild too forged pistons rods the full monty infact.

At Pod etc the traction is a discrace with all that rubber and crap build up,thats why you would have an advantage on a real strip. However on a nice piece of tarmac I will still say I will make you look silly not the other way round, and thats before my Greddy tubs are fitted;)

Like I told you as my car is ATM I have killed 2 GTO's and a GT3000;)

so I would feel very confident at toasting yet another.

I would have to agree there. Last time I went Pod couldnt get a clean get away dispite having traction control, as soon as the wheel spin was stopped and the traction control deactivated, I would straight away start spinning again. On that day there where Supras, ZXs, Lotus GT3 and other very powerful cars, and the one that got the best time I saw was a Subaru. Every other car wheel spun instantly.

I totally agree that this would be very interesting.

Lets not get too carried away with the banter between the two clubs here. It's nice to have a little competition, but I can see people are starting to take this personal and it could all turn sour, lets keep smiling and sort our differences out on the events mentioned above.

I think both of our cars are under rated in most magazines along with the rx7's.

Scooby's, poopra's and skylines seem to have their fingers in all the pies.

We need to put our cars back on the map and I think a little rivalry between the two clubs is a very good way to start

I'll be quite happy to liaise with MadLuka or anyone else from the GTO forum that wants to organise a head to head event.

Well said that man :)

This is excellent.

Lets be gentlemen about this, sounds like a great day and opportunity to swap war stories and mods speak.

I own a Z but it was a close call re buying a GTO and I still luv um.

See you at the Pod.

Because they have 90% of the weight at the back and also have almost comically huge slick tyres which they dont mind melting on a burn out before each race. I think that helps ;)
