The engine oil cooler is in front of the aircon rad(condenser)and in front of that is the tichy little transmission oil cooler. I felt it after a run the other day - the oil coolers that is, and the little transmission one was warm but the bigger engine one stone cold. Does anyone know if the engine one is controlled by a thermostat and at waht temp?

If so I guess I was driving like a granny as usual and being too cool.

Thanks

Willie

Mine is like that also (and I know a few other Z's that have the exact same 'problem')

Even after a really hard drive it's maybe just handwarm, but the oil inlet tube should be hot(tish)

Since I also have an oiltemp-gauge and have witnessed the oiltemps on a Z can get pretty high on a hot day (115Celcius), I was a bit worried (thought the damn thing was blocked or something)...but apparently they're all like that

As far as I know the oil is only bypassed to the cooler, when:

-the oil pressure is above 40psi (~2.8bar)

-the oil temp is above 100 Celcius

Hmm...I sense a new mod comming :-)

This sounds as a waste of the cooling capacity!

A cooler oil would ward off detonation.

I'll check my cooler next time.
