LadyZ, I had an argument with the rear end of a taxi! I fell victim to the roundabout trick. Taxi shoots off, I look right to check that ervine isn't screaming around and then pull away. BANG!!! Taxi, in the mean time has suddenly stopped. Must have been an invisible car coming. Very supprised with the amount of damage though.

Tooley, are you showing off again LOL

LadyZ, keep well away from him. Apparently he's certified dangerous! hehe. Now me on the other hand.......

ROFL.

Shit, You guys must suffer from Diabetes with that quality of sweet talk ;o))

A mate of mine did that exact same thing in his 16V fortunalty the extreme lack of low end torque didn't propel him into the other car at the same speed as your must have.

I'm always aware of that now as i was in the car when he did it, A Dumass thing for the other driver to do, stop in the middle of the round a bout, im sure they should have to harbour there share of the blame for it.

Good luck with the repairs.

How on earth did you bend a plastic bonnet like that?

Simon Pass

The bonnet is Aluminum, that's how...

Bad news Anders, if it's an consolution, I have done exactally the same thing in my previous car, except my Civic bumper went under the rear bumper of the other car... My bumper would have taken the load if it was a cm or so taller!

  • Author

Si, don't mean to be sarky 'an that, well, yeh I do. But, Plastic? Is your car a genuine Z or an airfix replica? J/K

The fasia is fibreglass and caved in very easily. Just found out the price from AB-flug. £1556,00 plus shipping. The previous owner went for the most expensive fasia on the bloody planet.

Andy

Aluminium?

That's the best post since I suggested someone check the HT leads on the Zed.

I'll get me coat!

Simon

Simon... you make me laugh... I think you watch to much Harry Enfield.

Anders, do you have to buy the AB Flug, why not get a different bumper. Don't forget, a new bumper means a new range of lights!

Norwich Union: I'm under their control!

They are paying for it & their policy is to replace broken with new so i'm not going to complain yet. I will get some feedback in the next couple of days. If it was out of my own pocket then I would definitely not pay that kind of wonga for a fasia.

I think they are having problems at the moment because they have called for a Norwich Union engineer to inspect the car. £850 (bonnet) plus £1500+ (fasia) plus new lights + damage to one of the rads (don't know which one) plus painting plus centre panel plus any alignment problems + it being a Jap import and all the carriage problems etc etc. I guess it all adds up.

that's starting to sound a bit worrying, IMHO.

if the price gets anywhere near the 50% value mark on a car older than 3 years, then it gets more and more likely to be written off.

In which case, a buy back would be a good deal if you get a cheaper facia (dont know what a fasia is..) dont they use them on star trek ?

  • Author

Shit, now i'm worried. How am I going to sleep tonight. I didn't know that. I thought it had to get close to 100% of the value of the car.

The trouble is, many expensive mods have been invested in this car plus an auto tranny rebuild a month ago. They are not likely to give me anywhere near the value that I insured it for.

I just hope they let me buy it back if they write it off. If they don't, or if they won't re-insure me for a previously written off car then i'm F*%*&^%*.

If NE1 has any bright ideas then now is the time to shout.

Yours pooping ones pants,

Andy

You can nearly always buy back the write off. So i don't think you need worry.

And depending on the category it is given, category C and D can be revoked with a valid new MOT certificate.

Some C's need an engineers report.

All B's need engineers report.

A category A write off should never be allowed back on the road, even if repaired.

You may need to haggle with the insurer for a category D classification if they decide to write off completely.

(This i know from experience :( the previous post, 50% over 3 years old stuff, i know from working at insurance underwriter)

The thing is, they don't tell you this when you take out the policy, or sometimes even when you have a claim. You have to weedle it out of the assessor or the underwriter.

Unless you have got a policy that acknowledges that you have a cherished car, and will take into account receipted modifications, and has a new for old with wear and tear clause.

You say yours has this, so you may be okay.

If all you have is panel damage (bonnet and facia) and no structural damage at all then you should be okay. Chat with the assessor when he comes, he'll know straight away whether it will be written off or not, once he knows the panel and paint costs.

Also, the other caveat to watch out for with insurance companies when they value your car...

REGARDLESS OF PRESS/MOTOR ORGANISATIONS/ETC,

annual mileage is worked out like this when it comes to claim time :-

years 1-3 of car... 15-18000

years 4-6 of car... 10-12000

years 7+ 6-8000

This means that Glass's guide price etc, is in no way anywhere near the price the insurance company will offer you.

And, if you expect a higher market price for your car as it is in exceptional condition ? be prepared to have to cut lots and lots of adverts out for cars with similar age/miles/condition as proof of current market value.

However, some companies are a fairer than others at claim time.

I didn't mean to scare you with the previous post, just passing on some hard lessons learnt and knowledge/experience.

anders is that the abflug rear end ?

show us a pic from the back ?

good luck with your car.

  • Author

Nah, no AB-flug rear end. I could do with one though because it look pants stock. Further pics will be in the Rides section soon.

Andy

ps. Craig, i'm not rushing you
