Ok I went out this morning, changed the rear pads and tightened the alternator belt. Car started ok, no squeall from belt. Just started the car and it died after 30 secs. It will now turn over and I have checked the fuel which is pumping out of the filter ok. I know the power transistor is a comon fault on these, how do I check it or has anyone got any other ideas to look for?

Cheers

Ady

Best way to checkit is vis a conzult or find somone close ot you and swap it over to see if it starts.

OK

Thanks for the quick response stuart.

John this is the first problem I have had.

Well I decided to call the RAC anf f**k me the guy was a genious!

He said the cause was "over fueling" and that it was the coolant tempretaure sensor telling the ecu it was colder than it acually was, this was causing the ecu to force more fuel into the engine (all this info in the first 5 mins) He then took the fuel pump fuse out and got the car going, he replaced the fuse and told me to locate the temp sensor and give the terminals a clean.

He said it may be a one off but when cold starting be raedy for it to cut out and throttle it if I thought it was going to.

Soooooo next question........... any one know where the coolant temp sensor is?

(Not the two senors on the top water pipe)

John try cleaning the conections to the ptu and the temp sensor if you can find it.

Regards

Ady

collant temp sensor is on the top aluminium rad hose, the one on the LHS i think, the other one is for the gauge on the dash.
