can anyone suggest what could cause this problem.

 

havent used my zed for a year or so. started it up the other day and the speedo shot round to 120 mph whilst stationary, a chimeing type bleep started not unlike the reverse warning indicator but a different sound,more strangly than anything else i lost power steering and the auto box was playing up (changing into overdrive at 20 mph etc and slipping in first).

then after a few moments all is ok. then a mile down the rd it all starts again!!!

all these problems seem linked to one fault as they all happen at the same time.......................

i thought mebbe an earth problem but not sure

Could just be gremlins from standing too long, disconnect the battery for an hour or so to reset the ecu, in fact charge the battery overnight if the cars been standing that long.

 

Check all your fluids too before you run it.

 

If its not that could be the speed sensor or something has packed up while its standing.

Very likely to be the speed sensor in my opinion, it's a common problem and would cause all those things.

 

Import Z's beep over a 100 or so (dont know exactly what speed as i have a UK) and as the speedo is telling u it thinks its goin that fast. It would also cause auto box problems,

When mine went the speedo dropped to 0 never shot up to 120 not moving!!!

 

 

Heres a pic of the speed sensor, worth cheching the wires havent come off.

Dead right 100kph 62mph.

Almost definately the speed sensor on the side of the gearbox ;)

Even if you only use yor Zed in the summer or occasionaly always start it up and run it around once a week or you are asking for all sorts of problems.

Yes, your car is experiencing speed sensor failure.

 

Not sure how much £ (thought it was in the region of £90) but get a new one from Nissan or MJP. No point in getting a second hand one as you don't know what condition it is in.
