A few times when I turn my car off I get a hissing noise from the fuel pump. The sound is very much like the hiss you get from the fuel cap when you open it, but louder and and it sounds like there is more pressure.

As I said it has done this a few time before when I turn the engine off, but it has now done it once or twice when I turn the engine on. For example today I turned the engine and just after it started to go on its own accord their was a hiss from the back of the car, which I can only presume is the fuel pump.

Does any one know what this is?

Stuart, I had similar noise from my fuel pump over the summer, I also could smell petrol. Im guessing the petrol had expanded (pressure), , due to heat, to fix just released petrol cap and released the pressure. On the last couple of fills, ive not filled right to the top, not done it since.

My tank and neck has been replaced as they did leak. I have filled it up a few times and it has made no difference. It happens randomly. It wont do it for a while and then does it 2 or so times in a week and then nothing for a while.

Is there a pressure release valve on the pump?

Is it not the noise of the pump sending something to the carbon cannister??

If i stand at the back of mine , when the turbo timer shuts off i get about a 1 to 2 second noise that can only be descibed as a "zzzzzzrrrrrrrr" (more electrical than air pressure) always done it since ive had it and i assume its perfectly normal!!!

Mine makes that electrical noise for about 2secs. Always done it.

No it sounds exactly like when you open a bottle of Coke or something

If it does this do u still get the hiss if u take the petrol cap off?

Sounds like it could be the seal between the top of the pump and the tank, i wouldnt have thought it would be so intermittent tho.

I still get the hiss from the cap too, it is almost the same sound only louder and higher pitched.

Its really strange why I get it.

I have replaced my tank and neck a few months ago and it did it before and after I changed it.
