Hi all,

More than likely a silly question but I have only had my 300ZX for 2 days now. Is there any point on having dump valves on my TT Auto, as do you have to have a manual to get that whooossh sound from them?

Also where is the best place to get them fitted.

Thanks in advance for your help and bearing with stupidity :-)

Alastair.

Auto's manuals. makes no difference if you want them.

They fit in the same 2 places as Manulas and sound off when you lift your foot off, like manuals ;)

and yes some auto guys do have them

BOVs vent (and go whoooosh... or per-CHEW... or whatever) when you back off the throttle. This is because backing off the throttle reduces the flow of fuel to the engine (obviously) - therefore less air required to ignite the fuel (equally obvious) - therefore the engine needs to put all the charged air somewhere other than the cylinders all of a sudden.

The stock recircs send it round the turbo circuit for another go. BOVs chuck it out into the atmosphere, and the sound is made by the charged (ie compressed) air escaping, decompressing, and cooling.

All this means you get the noise when you back off the throttle quickly and go off-boost. On a standing quarter in a manual you'll hear the BOVs when you back off to change gear at 30ish, 65ish, and 100ish. In an auto your foot is planted throughout and the BOVs will not be used.

They're still used if you back off for other reasons of course, eg braking, dropping off to coast after a lane change, etc, in both kinds of car.

So, bit of a waste of time on an auto IMHO!

I am looking to buy these off ebay. But how hard is it to fit them?

Piece of piss to fit, but i hope yer paying peanuts for em.

Smallest valves i've ever seen and fitted to non metal tubes as well, hmm definately the tackiest i've seen too, sorry.

Good thing I did not buy them :-)

Hi mate, i have recently fitted BOV's to my auto Z, well should i say Stu (SWM1) did, i just kind of watched.LOL.

I got the Turbo XS ones they claim to be the loudest ones in the world, they do sound pretty damn good, but since im running only 5psi of boost i reckon they would sound loads louder yet.

(4 boost leaks, not good)...............

I just kinda hammer it then let of the throttle, then let it gear up and floor it again, you get the whoosh, and im told its better on the torque converter backing off just before gear changes on an auto anyway???????????????

They are pretty damn well made

(single piece aluminium, with brass pistons)

and are quite a bit cheaper than the blitz or HKS, and sound loads better than than the bailey ones.

Hope this helps mate.
