My odometer and trip stopped working today ....

and then about 10 miles later started working again. The speedo and everything else functioned as normal. Any ideas what causes this to happen anyone ?

OK, did that and it was a chuffin' nightname. Got all the gubbins removed and got to the odometer itself only to discover that the Jap ones are held together by security screws (those ones you can do up but not undo), had to grind the heads off and replace them with different screws !!!!

Anyroadup, got it all apart and I reckon the reason mine stopped working was that one of the tiny cogs that is driven by the leccy motor had moved slightly along the shaft and slipped off the drive for the counters from time to time.

Also the digits on my 'tens' wheel were dirtier than the rest which looked a bit odd. It turns out that one of the cogs under that wheel is black, whereas most of the others are white, and also the leccy motor has the oppounity to blow the dust from it's brushes towards that wheel, so one of those two probably made it dirtier.

Anyway, all cleaned up and put back together now. Lets hope it works properly from now on.

Bonus was that I also discovered the location of the chime for the headlights and ignition switch - which was nice !
