Hi Guys

Last couple of days I've experienced an alarming power loss under hard acceleration. It happens particularly in 3rd and 4th gear when you boot it to the floor (eg: overtaking). All of a sudden the revs drop and it feels like I've taken my foot off the gas, lose all boost etc.. Take foot off the gas then reapply, and everything seems back to normal

It doesn't happen all the time, but I've experienced it twice tonight!

Any ideas?

PS. This is not just a crap excuse for my rubbish RR results :p (although maybe it has something to do with it...)

MAS or PTU maybe starting to fail.

Clean the connectors on both of them and you may find it solves the problem. Happend to me when my PTU was died. Only on flooring, the revs would reach so high and then all acceleration would stop and would only work again when I took my foot completely off the accelerator and then apply it again.

So try the PTU first. The connections on mine where green with sulphur. After giving them a good clean, the car worked better than it has done for a while.

Thanks Stuart! I did think of the PTU but this was replaced with a new series 2 unit about 3 years (20,000 miles) ago! I'll whip it out today and take a look..

Please keep it to yourself :D

Check your timing. Mine did something a little similar when it was 30 degrees advanced (base setting). I was getting a lot of detonation as well though...

I have an idea that mine was so far advanced that heavy load was pushing it that bit extra advanced where combustion was no longer anywhere near efficient...

Still haven't discovered why mine slipped that far...any fresh ideas or access to ConZult appreciated.

AdamR - if you read this, any ideas as to why your timing was miles out? I note you had your engine out. My gearbox had been swapped and engine loosened/tilted to allow the work to be done. Ben had a similar timing slip and he'd had his engine out - just looking for the lowest common denominator.

Cheers!

SRRAE - Sorry to sound like a thickie but where is the MAS located?!

RobH - No apparent detonation here so I'll check the other 2 possibilities first!

Kia99 - LOL :p

any more on this?

I am having the same problems with my zed at higher speeds... i have made quite afew posts however no one knows what it might be.

Considering the other posts i have left today that may indicate the PTU (revs dropping when touchin gthe accelerator pedal)

so i know it's an old thread but after searching for weeks and weeks for a similar post i have finally found this :hyper:

Sorry bud - all sorted but never got to the bottom of it. Was either fuelling or bad PTU connection.

ahh so you changed your fuel pump and ptu?

i have new PTU S2 waiting to be fit but i was thinking of getting anew fuel pump incase..

or did you have alot done to your engine so you are not sure the exact problem?

:-)

can anyone swap their PTU with mine for a test? after i have tested the PTU and i still have this problem how much am i looking at for a new fuel pump and fuel controller?

i have a feeling that my split second where the engine stops pulling under hard acceleration is either the fuel pump not giving a higher volt at higher loads or the PTU is causing this

why do i have to have the problem that hardly anyone else has experienced lol !!!!

swap it for a dodgy coil pack or anything where there is loads of guides anyday :-)
