are they the same sort of price?

if so the uk one sounds good (history , leathers)

but on the outher hand red ones look better

not much help realy am i

UK is £250 more, the dings are not too bad prob about £200 to get sorted.

Rich

The Uk one sounds good, its also a later model (probably a series 2) so some of the afflictions of the series one would have been sorted.

Cheaper insurance too, so it will leave you more cash to fix those dings. Could the £250 price difference could be gotten rid of with a little haggling?;)

The import may have 72000kms but do you know if it's accurate? I'd probably go for the UK car (leather FNSH etc) providing there's no rust problems.

Get an inspection done though, or take someone along who knows Zeds and invest in a good warranty. These are expensive cars to fix.

Good luck

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Richard,

To be fair i've already managed to knock £500 off the price of the UK car.:D :D :D :D :D

Regarding the warranty, the seller, even though a decent sized garage normally doesn't deal in performance cars so the warranty he was going to put on the car was really a waste of time.

Is there any other way of getting a satisfactory warranty?????

The Import is very nice to look at but i have no proof that the mileage is correct (service hist, MOT's etc). Where the UK is fully backed by Nissan.

I have downloaded all the bits and bobs from the forum regarding buying a used zx eg- gearbox diagnostics, checking the ecu and the list goes on, all said both cars match my criteria but the UK i think has the edge, even though the mileage is near on double.

All to do now is buy one.

But which.

Rich

I actually prefer the imports for a number of reasons, no rust problems and lower mileage.

But a full history is always valuable, as long as it is full with all invoices etc. so you can see what has been done over the years and if there were any ongoing problems. But any seller is unlikely to submit parts of the history that could show problems.

The difference in price isn't much help as it's a very small gap.

You must compare the mechanical and general conditions of the car and go from there. A good test drive in them both is a must.

good luck.

Geoff.

Geoff,

I've test drove them both and are equally as good, this is the main concern, i realise the import is in slightly better condition and lower miles but i do like a car with a full service history. The only concern with the UK car is ware and tare on the other parts- steering, braking, diff, driveshafts etc.

Do you think i'm kidding myself a bit???

Not all Imports have no rust problems. I am sure when they are exported here only the best really get filtered through.

When Imports come here the underseal is not really good enough for UK roads and if not treated will rust very very quickly.

Stuart

Rich - you can privately purchase warranties from warranty companies. Dunno how much it'd cost tho...sure there'll be a couple in the yellow pages etc :)

I'd go for the Jap, better condition, v low mileage if accurate, plus I prefer Jap zeds :D. And its red.

Think i'm going for the Uk as stated i do like service history and he did give me a good deal. I wish it was red pete, they look superb in red.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Please keep posting as i am not putting a deposit on either until Tuesday.

Which ever one i buy i'll be taking it to Santa pod on Nov 2nd.

Thanks again.

Well you'll have to deal with the regret  Probably the wisest choice :)

A few of us are going to Santa Pod on the 2nd, check out the events section :)

Pete

Look forward to meeting you all.

Where you from pete?

I'm in Leicester.

Maybe meet up somwhere if were not too far away.

Rich

Daventry, down the M1 a bit :) There's a fair few of us Midlanders now - always up for a meet :D, there's a few round Derby which isn't far from you is it?

No, derby's only about 30 miles, daventry's only 30 ish also.

Sad fact- When i was 20 i worked at Motorworld in dav for a week whilst covering for the manager.:o

Would like to meet up, the last car club type of thing i was in was the Vauxhall Performance (ha ha) Car Club (you may all slap me round the back of my head) and no i didn't have a nova.

Rich

Although red is best, go for the younger UK car.

FSH is vital for TT.

(Iirc the ptu is better on the '92.)

Gotta agree simmo, i'll be buying the UK then.

For the small amount of bodywork that doesn't really need doing as it's that minor, and it's got all the bits that i wanted i.e. leather and a good service history, also as i'm crap at working out KPH onto MPH unless in doing 100k's all the time.

Thanks again

Rich

Just to say thanks again.

I've put the deposit on the UK car i'll be getting it in around 1 and a half weeks.

I'm like a little kid in a sweet shop now.

Ta Ra

Rich

wait till you drive it you will fill your pants lol:D

To SRRAE.

Stuart,

Sorry mate, but what you said earlier is incorrect. The underseal on imports is identical to UK cars, they came off the same production line and UK cars did not get any "extra" treatment, this is FACT!! Undersealing on imports and UK sourced cars is to Nissan's usual "OK" (but not brilliant) standard.

(And if it was better, your bodywork wouldn't be in the state it's in would it!!:D )

But that aside, I have to agree that undersealing/waxoyling is a good plan anyway.

What people miss re. corrosion is that most of it is caused by external damage, if you use your car on crappy freshly stone chipped roads etc, they will chip off protection and paint, then salt will speed up rate of corrosion. (Japanese don't use salt.)

I've come across newly "surface dressed" roads where I've personally turned back to avoid chipping my paint, only to see idiots charging onto the new surface at full speed, throwing up clouds of granite chippings at each other!!, they just seem oblivious to the damage they are doing to their cars! Then 10 years later.... people wonder why the car is falling to pieces due to rust!!

Also, most people only wash the outside of the car, you really need to wash underbody and especially wheel arches, to ensure no build up of mud/grime, and inspect/touch in as needed frequently!!

Although not definitive, when I bought mine, I said to the local Mandela "please check the underseal and let me know if I have to have it done as I am told Japan is different to UK". They checked and said "nope, no difference".

For sure, they could have been incompetent but it's not like a garage to turn down business offered to them on a plate by a punter who has no idea!

Cheers - Gio

A 1990 car should not have a velour interior, unless it's already been changed for that from a later (Series II) model.

Service history is interesting but not really much more than that. It's easily forged and only tells you a little about how fussy the previous owner(s) have been.

If you can tell me the VIN for the 1990 car, then I can tell you how old it really is.

Andy,

Thanks for that, but i'm now buying keith s's zed (used to be Matty's) as it suit's my discription required perfectly.

I now cannot wait to get the beast.

P.S. I'm sending my £20 of to Anita for membership as we speak, buying this has already buggered the bank balance so i've gotta save on parts.

Thanks to everyone's input regarding the thread.

:D :D

Rich

Most, if not all of the warranties you can buy are mechanical BREAKAGE warranties, ie if its worn out, abused, neglected, too bad.

make sure you know what you are buying..

For what its worth go for the younger car....

Yeah, I was eondering why you were chossing from only 2 cars, there are loads of them out there, good and bad.

Drive a few, ask some questions, join the forum, buy a car, then find out what you did wrong!

Maybe by the time you have your 3rd or 4th zed you'll have got it right!

(Yep, my first one too!)

Nigel,

Believe me i've drove a few.

You know whan you have just had enough of looking and just want to get your 4rse in the driver's seat, well thats me now, even though i've not been looking for a great amount of time ( 1 and a half months ) i now know what a knackered zed drives like (apparently 61'000 miles F.S.H, G reg, J spec but it was falling to bits and he wanted £5100) and i HOPE a good un.

I'm glad i'm having on that's known by a couple of members on the forum (Matty and Pete shrimp) as this gives me a bit of confidence within the car, also Keith s whom i'm buying it off is a nice chappy.

So i hope i've not jumped in too quick, i don't think i have but hey we'll see. As the old saying goes "It's only money" Shame i haven't got much though.
