Going to change my thermostat.

Has any one got any tips on how to do it?

Is there much I have to take off or is it just the 2 rad pipes coming from the front of the engine? Will I need any gaskets or sealent?

Yep, top two pipes. You'll be best replacing the two little hoses behind the top pipe and yes you will need sealant ;)

The online manual says I will need to remove the rad fan. It that just to make more room.

I dont think I can be arsed doing it any more ;)

How much will it cost to pay some one else to do it ;)

its not that bad of a job to do it. I did it in about 1/2 hours took my time..

Stu if i can do it im damn sure you can, i saw your rust repair and that was well beyond a thermostat!!

The fan is only 4 bolts, worth it for the extra room.

Word of advice, once you drain the water off, if you are not doing the emptying of the water on the engine banks thing, i didnt cos i couldnt find the drain plugs!! put the loose bottom rad hose in a bucket and blow down the top rad hose (that goes into the engine) this should clear enough water to stop it p15sing out onto the timing belt when you pull the pipe off.

Good luck bud.

Okay then. I will do it Friday.

I think it was the thermostat which was causing my over heating a few months ago.

All of a sudden in 1 day it over heated and then again over night the engine would not warm up. It will be nice to see the temp gauge on the 80ºC mark again.

1/2 an hour. How the hell did you do it in 30 mins?

Everything that could go wrong did, including dropping a bolt which landed near the water pump

Anyway did get it on and the difference between the 2 thermostats was quite a bit. The old one was open about 2mm all the time and would not close. I boiled them in water and the old on seemed to open wider, but when I stood them both up in cold water the new one closed all the way back down in about 2 seconds, with the other took a few mins to get back to the starting place.

Enging is warmer now :D. Not that much warmer. It gets to just under 70ºC and only got to 80ºC after I booted it for a few seconds. Didnt take long to get it back down though. :D

Im just hoping there are no leaks.

I even had time to make a little video of the performance of the 2 thermostats? Any one want to get bored to sleep and have a look ;)
