I currently own 2 MR2s and and looking for either a Zed or a Supra for the weekend.....possibly both.......

What are the running costs like for a Zed ?

Featured Replies

Zed!

Running costs? who cares.

(Um, "if you need to ask - you can't afford it.")

Oh aye cheers....helpful that.......:(

Think I'll stick to Toyota........

NIPPON,

Perhaps you could be a little more specific with your question ... :)

I mean,

They are generally quite dear to insure, but on the right policy, you can work round this ... I'm sure it's the same with a Supra.

They use a lot of petrol if you drive them hard, not so much if you're a little more careful :( ... as above.

They can be serviced relatively cheaply (not by a main dealer), but by a specialist, or by your goodself on the whole ... ditto again, no doubt.

Things like tyres etc cost quite a bit ... parts are dear-ish and modding can cost you a packet, but it's fun!! :D:D - all ditto with a Supra, I guess.

Get my drift? It's difficult to generalise, but then I guess no supercar's gonna be bargain basement, is it?

If you ask more specific questions then I'm sure people will help.

CheerZ,

JB.

Basically I wanna know about your bills.......what's a normal service cost you? or anyone had an engine rebuild etc.....what's it cost.....typically........ or a turbo replaced, what are you looking at for a full stainless exhaust for example....

Stuff like that.....or any unexpected expensive pitfalls that you've encountered

I Just paid £567 for a Blitz NUR spec exhaust for one of my MR2s so it's not a case of 'if you have to ask then you can't afford it'.....I am simply curious as I know a lot more about the prices of Toyota bits.....and therfore what a Supra would be like over a period of time....but I would like a point of view from a Z owner

I don't care about insurance or fuel.......you'd expect to pay a bit for that, well insurance ain't that bad, got quoted £339 fully comp

Engine removal ~£800-£1000 not including any work

Turbo replacement - see above lol

Clutch change ~£100-£200

60k service ~£450

Just remember anything turbo related you have to have 2. Only difference here between the Z and the supra is the ICs really since the supra is TT too - although if you're modding, you can go single tub with the supra, not so with the Z.

Both cars expensive to mod highly, both with good strong bottom ends if you don't wanna push it too far.

HTH

Andy

Cheers guys, that's helpful, not as expensive as I had previously thought......just that I've had a mate who used to have a Silvia...and it was always going wrong and cost him a fortune......and it was nowt like a Z.....so i had visions of huge bills.....don't sound too bad tho'

If you drive it like you stole it then you will have big bills ;) you have to treat these cars with respect and care, if you treat them right then they will treat your wallet right, its mainly about preemptive maintenance.

Ha, yeah true......better change that !

Cheers fella !
